Happy Easter to one and all (especially the Kingslanders 😘) and welcome to Monday’s Rugby News. Today we’ll review the first of the three shortened Super Rugby rounds where the Ponies stampeded, the Rebels and Reds turned into the Rabble and the Force and Tarts lost to enjoyed the bye. I’ve included a bit off the long run about the efforts of Stan (article 2.0 on this one). We’ll have the results of the lightning-affected round three of the Super W results. Elsewhere around the world, the Saffas have been punted out of contention in the “European” competitions and the…

Greetings, G&GRs, and welcome to Hoss-free Friday. With the Waratahs finding it hard to get a win against the bye (or any other team for that matter), Hoss has chosen to re-enact parts of Jesus’ life: water into wine, hanging out with hookers, enjoying the creature comforts of a prison cell and likely dying as some pariah martyr for his many, many sins. So, in lieu of the usual Friday “tragic Tah Tale”, guest contributor Rhys from Kingsland has stepped into the breach with an article that may delight Australia’s version of the American South. Happy chocolate weekend! And ‘Go…

Greetings, G&GRs, and welcome to the month of April. The first Orange Cadbury Wobbly squad of the second coming of Eddie Jones has been named. Who are your smokies? Who should consider themselves disappointed? And who, despite evidence to the contrary, ought to consider themselves blessed to be in the good graces of Waratah and RA money the rugby gods? Round six of Super Rugby is complete, round two of the Super W and Women’s Six Nations, the announcement of the Pacific Challenge and the Australian Women’s Sevens side qualify for the Paris Olympics – good stuff! I’ve posted a…

Greetings, G&GRs, and welcome to another poxy Monday (well, first time for the Ponies, status quo for the Reds, Farce and Tart fans it seems). Congratulations to the Rabble on their win over the Kingslanders. Not having watched the Force game, to me the Rebels v Reds was easily the match of the round. Let’s see who makes the pending Wobbly squad at all but the halfway point before the bye rounds start hitting in Round Seven. In other news, the Women’s Super Rugby and the Women’s Six Nations kicked off over the weekend so the results will be here,…

Greetings, G&GRs, and welcome to another Monday News! Plenty of match-ups in Super Rugby this weekend, with the Chiefs and Ponies maintaining their unbeaten start to the season. While neither team were perfect, it’s scary to see how good both could be if they get their game plans and skills together. Elsewhere, the Tarts got boshed against the Canes, the Crusaders v Blues was ‘Dolemaned’, the Farce got pantsed and the Reds escaped against the Drua.Overseas, the Oirish have won the Six Nations with a Grand Slam (and with it breaks the chariot yet again), the Taffs lose to the…

Greetings, G&GRs, and welcome to the Monday news. Like a few other states and territories, Melbourne has a public holiday this fine day. If you have your priorities right you’ll be catching up from all the action this weekend and avoiding your better halves/responsibilities. Today, we have a full round of Super Rugby Pacific, Six Nations and u20 Six Nations to review while plans for the BIL25 are coming together. I’m sure Keith will be coming in off the long run from Tasvegas after ‘England look worse without Eddie’. Tally ho! SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC – ROUND THREEWell, folks, I don’t…

G’day, G&GRs. Chuck back with you for a special (not like that, Yowie) edition of the Chewsday Chew. Unfortunately, life has struck Nutta in, well, the Nuttas so he’s unavailable for this week. Compounding this is that you serial G&GR procrastinators are stuck with my ‘journalism’ for two consecutive days. Me paenitemus. So, Super Round. I had a bit of a crack in Monday’s news about the absolutely appalling efforts of TEG Sports and SANZAAR associated jesters running what is supposed to be a celebration of our great sport. Alas, two seasons in a row, the event has fallen flat…

Greetings from windy sunny rainy Melbourne! Well, what a curious set of results we’ve had from the weekend down here. Some games were tighter than KB’s wallet in a pub and some games looser than Hoss’s morals at a Uni O-week. There were big hits aplenty, plenty of tries scored (we won’t count the Ponies v Blues second half) and more Magnums consumed than I can count (fuqing 32 degree weather FFS. Winter sport my left nut.). Anyway, we’ll wrap up the action from the weekend, some winners and losers based on my live viewing, some news from the Welsh…

Thank you to Rhys Bosley for submitting a conveniently timed guest article in Happyman’s absence this morning! Some news will be below for discussion as well. Happy Thursday! Chuck.“God help him, he was only 19”by Rhys BosleyTommy “Turbo” Lynagh could well have been the subject of that famous Red(s)gum song on Saturday night, when he made his debut against that source of even faster moving air particles, the Hurricanes from New Zealand. The young flyhalf did OK in his first Super Rugby start for Queensland, except when it came to tackling flying Kiwi outside backs with their legs like the…

Welcome to Monday’s rugby news, G&GRs. Well, what a start to the Super season that was! Not only does Hoss have to eat his 36 points of humble pie, but the Saders got pantsed at home by the Chiefs. The summary is below. Further to the weekend of rugby, the third round of the Six Nations (and u20s) has been completed. I’ll have some conversation points about the weekend; however, feel free to make your own! Especially if it has something to do with the Tarts losing. 😉SUPER RUGBY ROUND ONEChiefs 31 def Crusaders 10 – report hereBrumbies 31 def…

Welcome to Monday’s Rugby News, G&GRs. I trust that your final weekend before the Super season starts (as well as the resumption of the Five Nations and what’s left of Wales) was spent in a summer’s bliss. Even Melbourne has seen some lovely weather over the weekend. Huzzah! In today’s news, we’ll recap Eddie Jones and Gus Gould’s budding bromance at Coogee Oval, Razor to Fiji, the Lord getting punted and my preview of Round One of Super Rugby Pacific.EDDIE JONES AND GUS GOULD HAVE A CHINWAG AT COOGEERugby Australia is definitely cashing in on their master coach, Eddie Jones, as…

Thanks to Rhys Bosley for his article on the Thorn in the Reds coaching and how this might get Eddie to look towards KingsQueensland instead of, say, at gaol ball for players.Greetings G&GRs and thanks to the team here for the opportunity to contribute my first article. As a one-eyed Reds supporter, I wanted to start off by talking about the impact of Eddie Jones’ appointment as Wallabies coach on the selection prospects of Queensland Reds players. Reds coach Brad Thorn is famed for demanding physical excellence from his players and it’s held the Reds in good stead during his…

Greetings, folks, and welcome to the latest addition of absolute drivel spouting from my keyboard. Well, down here in sunny* Melbourne, it’s a slightly early start to the rugby season with the motley crew of referees gathering at Cheltenham Golf Club for a round of deadset cheating taking a liberal approach to social golf etiquette. Anyhoo, we’ll have a gander at the Six Nations results (sorry, EP, and hopefully ‘sorry, not sorry’, KB), Wallaroos (finally) getting paid contracts and the scores from the final Super Rugby trials. IRELAND v FRANCELet’s start with the big one – as Andy Bull wrote…

Well my fellow G&GRians it looks like you’re stuck with me for another week. Round 1 of the 6Ns made history, sort of. The first week I all the away teams won, but with Ireland and France I suppose that was to be expected. The Irish had their game won after 30 mins. The Scots deserved their win helped by the SDs shite defence and a dreadful kicking game. The Italians were a revelation taking to the French with, shock horror, running rugby. I don’t think Galthie expected that but the French responded in kind and it was the game…

Good morning, G&GRs, and welcome back to the official Monday News for 2023! *Insert loud cheers, whoops and huzzahs* Yes, yes, I’m delighted to be back to normal operations, especially as we now have some rugby to chew the fat over. Along with the Six Nations I’ll post what I can find out about the trial matches, some classy “Money Bill Williams” moments from European Champs, a link to Eddie Jones’ podcast and some links to how the referees are officiating the game in the Six Nations, which is how I expect The Rugby Championship and Bill23 to be refereed.…

In our playing careers we’ve all come across them, right evil bastards who you wouldn’t like to meet in a dark alley. We all have our favourites (Richard Moriarty of Swansea is one individual that I have ‘fond’ memories of) but collectively I don’t think I’ve come across any eviller, and I have to say formidable, packs that those put out by the French in the late 70s and 80s. Many famous for nefarious activities both on and off the field. So looking back through history and leading into modern days, forget Alley Oz’s cuddly hairy footed hobbits and get…

Greetings, G&GRs, and welcome to a short Monday News. With some background chatter (i.e., Keith is bored and I’m procrastinating) on refereeing, including how appointments are made and what processes we have for community referees, I thought it’d be time to sow the seed for people who’re considering refereeing in 2023. It’s no secret that all levels of sports in Australia are facing challenges with the ranks of volunteers. This is especially so in the ranks of officials. I get it. We’re all busy (even Hoss, allegedly) and have “shite to do”. So why referee? Well, I think I phrased…

Hullo, G&GRs, and welcome to another edition of the Apple Isle rants.
