Rugby is definitely a big part of my life and I love to watch it and report on it. My teams are the Queensland Reds and Brothers.
Round Six of Queensland Premier Rugby has seen yet another week of action, thrills and spills. Let’s start with GPS. With lots of ladies gathered for GPS’ Ladies Day, the stakes were high. The highly-entertaining game ended in a 26-all draw. Sunnybank have officially returned to their winning ways, with a massive 63-17 win over Wests. Brothers remain undefeated thus far, after pulling 39-15 win over Norths who remain in last position on the ladder. And last but not least, here’s the match report from Souths’ thrilling 29-22 win over Bond. Souths have broken their two-game losing streak after a…
Round Five of Queensland Premier Rugby certainly didn’t disappoint and it looks like 2014 is in full swing and it’s game on for our nine teams. Sunnybank finally produced the goods after a long drought this season, defeating competition heavyweights Souths 53-20 at Old Mac Oval. This has put points on the board for Sunnybank, who now sit just one point behind Wests on the ladder, in seventh place. Souths will return to the Nest next week and need to defeat Bond University to stay comfortably in the Top Four. University is on fire this season after their 29-13 win…
Souths v Brothers By Rebecca Thompson Brothers have ended Souths’ undefeated 2014 season run after a convincing 37-13 win at Chipsy Wood Oval in Round Four of Queensland Premier Rugby. Both teams came into the encounter undefeated and Souths were looking to retain their second placing on the ladder while Brothers were looking to claim this spot. Souths were quick to add pressure to the visitors in the opening minutes after Pat King made a break for the try line, only to be stopped short by an intercept from Brothers’ Dave Campbell. The Brethren’s new recruit Sam Greene was clinical…
If Round Three of the Queensland Premier Rugby 2014 season is anything to go by, this year should be a cracker. Let’s start with Bond University. They had two sizeable losses in as many weeks but their tightly-contested 40-32 win over Sunnybank has given them attention in the competition and they now sit pretty in seventh place. 2013 Premiers, Easts, bounced back after last week’s loss to Souths and defeated Wests 32-31. The Tigers are now in sixth place and despite the loss, Wests gained a bonus point and are in fourth place just ahead of GPS. Uni are still…
It’s been a long time coming (14 years to be exact) but Easts have finally reclaimed the Hospital Cup. A big thanks to the QRU Media Department for allowing us to use their match report. Easts have won the Hospital Cup for the first time since 2008 after defeating GPS 27-22 in the Queensland Premier Rugby Grand Final at Ballymore on Sunday afternoon. In front of a crowd of 8,670, Easts proved too powerful for GPS, repeating their victory from the Major Semi-Final two weeks ago. The kicking of fly-half Matt Brandon proved the difference with both teams scoring four…
Believe it or not but the Queensland Premier Rugby club season is done and dusted for another year. Now we head into three weeks of finals fever! After this weekend, we’ve seen some vast changes in the Top Four and it’ll be interesting to see which teams come out on top in the semi finals next week. In the biggest shock of the week, Brothers have finished their regular season in fourth place. Losing their last three games of the season has been very costly and they’ve gone from the top and seemed almost unbeatable but they’ve unfortunately been able…
This time in two weeks, we’ll be getting ready for the first round of finals. Time certainly flies! Round 17 showed some close results and another reshuffle of the ladder has taken place. First of all, the Gold Coast and Norths had a high-scoring showdown but it was the Gold Coast who took the 54-51 win. Following on from last week, Wests had a big 43-12 win against the Sunshine Coast. Uni had a highly-convincing 46-25 win over GPS in their Annual Halley Appleby Memorial game. In the same game two years ago, much-loved player Halley Appleby tragically died. Uni’s convincing…
The sun decided to come out yesterday just in time for another exciting round of Queensland Premier Rugby. Brothers are still the clear leaders of the competition after thumping the Sunshine Coast 40-0. They can’t get too comfortable though as their remaining games are against GPS, Easts and Uni who are the other teams in the Top Four. The most exciting game of the round was probably Wests v Sunnybank. Wests won off a penalty goal in the dying minutes and besides the fact that I won money off this game, Sunnybank are now out of finals contention unless a…
The results are in for this weekend’s Round 13 of Queensland Premier Rugby and we seem to have a new-look Top Four.
The second half of the Queensland Premier Rugby Competition was a stunner; with all teams proving that the months leading up to the finals will be enthralling. The much-anticipated Welsby Cup match between first and second-placed Brothers and Easts lived up to its prestigious tag. Both teams played with guts and determination and Brothers earned a hard-fought 28-17 victory over the Tigers. In other games, the Sunshine Coast received their first win of the season, narrowly defeating the Gold Coast 26-22. GPS achieved a very convincing win over Norths by winning 30-3. Souths beat reigning Premiers Sunnybank 31-26 whilst Uni came…
Queensland Premier Rugby is finished for yet another week and we’ve seen some seriously interesting results!
The Australian Under 20’s team have deservedly recorded their first win of the IRB Junior World Championships with a strong 46-12 victory over Fiji
It’s official -all teams have now played each other once and we’re about to move into the second half of the 2013 season!
This weekend in Queensland Premier Rugby was definitely a highlight in this year’s competition, with close scores all across the board! First-placed GPS drew with Uni 22-22 in Uni’s Heritage Round celebrations at St. Lucia. After trailing 5-12 at half time, Souths came back to beat Sunnybank 23-19. This win brings Souths a bit closer to regaining their spot in the Top Four. Brothers put on a show for their Ladies Day crowd, winning 28-22. After losing 8-10 at half time, they kicked into gear in the second half and played some really good footy. Despite the loss, Easts will…
It’s the end of Round 7 and Premier Rugby has a new competition leader! GPS have claimed the top spot after downing Brothers 10-6 at Yoku Road. This was an especially good win for GPS as it was the club’s Heritage Round that celebrated their long, interesting history. In possibly the largest margin of the year, Easts defeated the Sunshine Coast 91-13. The Stingrays have just one win this season and will look to revive their season against Wests next week. Easts will play Brothers in what will be yet another close competition heavyweight clash. After trailing 18-7 at half…
Queensland Premier Rugby, round six ended in some seemingly predictable results but it was exciting nevertheless.
Premier Rugby This week in Premier Rugby certainly didn’t disappoint! First and foremost, Wests had a stunning 36-20 win over 2012 Premiers Uni. This is perhaps a turning point for Wests and shows that they are more than capable of a good upset. 2012 Grand Finalists Sunnybank went down 26-19 to Easts, who are now in 3rd place on the Ladder. Norths were defeated 18-13 by a strong GPS side and they remain winless this season. After trailing for a good part of the first half, Brothers managed a 42-15 win over Souths at Chipsy Wood Oval. The Brethren are…
Yet another round of Premier Rugby has wrapped up and we’re starting to see the clear leaders of the competition.
Let’s go to Crosby Park where Brothers defeated the Gold Coast 41-5. This bonus point win keeps them at the top of the table on 20 points.
Here’s my match report for this game:
So the Reds and the Brumbies had a draw….that’s headline news in rugby today. But let’s talk about another headline-worthy thing –Round 3 of the Premier Rugby competition.
Wow. Brisbane Premier Rugby round one certainly didn’t disappoint. Although there weren’t any huge upsets or ground-breaking shocking results, there was still plenty of excitement to be had.
