Moses spends far too long on G&GR, dealing with the totality of the strength and conditioning, the medical, the rugby side of things, strategy, the review, preview of the internet itself and also the individuals. A Waratahs apologist and rib-eye steak enthusiast, he is often found working behind the scenes keeping the G&GR juggernaut afloat.
This evening’s match at the Sydney Football Stadium showcased the tough, grinding style of play we’re coming to expect from local derbies, with Berrick kicking the ball so many times his calf cramped. All up there were 76 kicks from hand — 44 by the Force and 32 by the Tahs. Sitaleki Timani with his two rat’s tails was the go-to man with many strong runs and was also busy in defence. He’s hit a great patch of form and is providing the go-forward that the Waratahs are missing from Cliffy and TPN. His handling has improved noticeably in the…
There was a man, and Kepu was his name. He started life in the back row, though he never quite felt… close enough. Then one day he was moved closer. Things began to seem right, like he was suddenly where he belonged. Unfortunately, his was a raw power. Untamed and uncontrolled, he lacked the direction to be effective. But then, through a series of events, fate moved the chess pieces in a way that no mortal man could hope to understand. When the dust had settled, there holding the reins of mighty Kepu was the Prop Whisperer, Foles. Michael Foley…
It’s being widely reported that Kurtley Beale has agreed to terms with the Melbourne Rebels for 2012. Identified for greatness by Mark Ella while still at St Joseph’s College, Kurtley has been attending training sessions with the Waratahs since the age of 15. He made his state debut shortly after his 18th birthday in January 2007. The 22-year-old is now in his fifth season with the Waratahs, having excelled at both flyhalf and fullback for the province. A high point of his Super Rugby career to date was the 2008 Super 14 final against the Crusaders. Gilbert was heavily…
Tahs running out in charity strip, and attacking from the outset. Tom Carter playing at 10 in defence from a superb scrum by the Tahs and Atieli Pakalani in for the Tahs first try in the 3rd minute. Converted and it’s 7-0! Chiefs regained from the restart and threw it around, penetrating the Tahs defence and applying pressure in their 22. Some great darts enterprising darts from Brendan Leonard had the Chiefs almost scoring a penalty after a surrendered tackle on Delany, however the Chiefs spilled the ball at the Tahs line. Back for a penalty – 7-3. Tahs straight…

The Cheetahs overcame jet lag and a string of injuries — to captain Juan Smith in Week 2, second-choice captain Franco van der Merwe in Week 3, and third-choice captain Andries Strauss 15 minutes into this match, giving 26-year-old Wilhelm Steenkamp the captain’s armband — to register their first-ever win outside the Republic of South Africa against the Waratahs last night. The bookies had the virginal visitors at 10 to 1 going into the match; however, nobody had handed the match script to the blokes from Bloemfontein, who showed up and played a brilliant game of rugby. Standout performances from Heinrich…
The heavy Sydney rains subsided just prior to kick-off leaving a moist but well-drained Sydney Football Stadium holding a crowd of 15,849. The Waratahs came out with entertainment on their minds, attacking from the kick-off and moving the ball all around the park. Early raids by the Waratahs pressured the Cheetahs’ line yet returned no points. At one point they won a penalty right in front, Burgess took a quick tap and the Tahs turned the ball over after several threatening movements. The Cheetahs soon got their opportunity to attack and after a few phases for no gain slipped into…
The NSW Waratahs controlled possession in the opening ten minutes of the first half, winning two kickable penalties and opening a 6-0 lead through Berrick’s boot. Lots of niggle including some punches between Quade and Berrick , a spear tackle on Tom Carter and a TPN juggernaut throwing his 113kg into anything Red that moved. The first try came on the back of some great offloading from the Tahs and finished with Drew Mitchell scoring in the corner. Following an unsuccessful kick at poles the score was 11-0 after 10 minutes. The Tahs continued to apply pressure in the Reds…
A dominant performance from the Waratahs in which all players improved their stocks. All players that is, apart from Ryan Cross who had tits for hands and made a habit of losing possession. In an omen that bodes for round 1, the same Fijian side who competed with the Rebels just last week were severely outclassed by a near full strength Waratahs squad who raced to a 41-0 lead. As the Waratahs cleared the bench their handling degraded and scoring ceased, allowing Fiji to put on 13 unanswered points with some slick attacking rugby in the second half, taking the…
