So we had some technical issues this week, and our recording was sadly unfit for public consumption. This Skype recording thing is not as easy as it looks! In the absence of a fully formed pod, I have thrown together some of my far less fully formed opinions in the show’s first solo podcast. The sound quality isn’t excellent (the acoustics in my kitchen aren’t as great as I’d hoped) so apologies for that. Is it a cogent, logical monologue? Of course not. Is it listenable at all? The jury is out. But at least we’ve put out something this week.…
What a great game! The Wallabies turned up in Bloemfontein, and played out a heart-racing draw that was great to watch. Both sides had plenty of chances to win it, but I think it would be the Springboks who would be feeling the worst. How we held them out in the last 15 I have no idea. I’ve taken a pretty optimistic view of our guys, who I thought put it a good shift in tough conditions. There is a reason we’ve only won once in 40-odd years at altitude. The draw was a pretty good result for us and…

It was the biggest call in the biggest match of the biggest series. And Romain Poite got it bang on.
The Waratahs have kept their finals hopes alive, beating the Rebels 50-23 in a see-sawing encounter at Allianz Stadium. Photos courtesy of Peter Mitchell. The Match The game started in the worst possible way for the Rebels, with captain Reece Hodge being carried off in the opening minute after a nasty head knock. Thankfully that didn’t deter the visitors, who looked good in the early stages and took the lead with a Ben Volavola penalty after six minutes. The lead would last about 30 seconds though, with the Waratahs scoring one of their best tries of the season. Set up…
The Tahs served up a steaming pile of rubbish to their loyal fans, losing 26-24 to the lowly Kings. They were outenthused, outcoached, outplayed. The Match The first half was a fairly scrappy affair, as you would probably expect from to cellar-dwelling sides. There was a lot of dropped ball, though you couldn’t fault the attacking endeavour shown by either side. The Waratahs opened the scoring through Taqele Naiyarovoro, with the big unit finishing nicely in the corner after a Bernard Foley cross-kick was poorly handled by the Kings. Israel Folau was looking good early, finding space on a number…

Here I am, back at the computer with a head full of steam and a pocketful of dreams. Lock the kids in the car and put the dog in the yard, because I’m coming in hot: Test Rugby Rules Baby How good is test match footy? Before we get to the result, let’s just sit back and bask in the glow of a bloody ripper of a game of rugby. It had it all, ups and downs, highs and lows, ins and outs, Hayletts and Pettys. Both sides played positive, aggressive rugby and put on a great show. Super…
