Regular contributors Rugby Reg and Hugh Cavill also join in on the wang. Our 5 burning questions this week are: 1) Obviously the Force (and everything they entail). 2) Reds v Tahs – a good old fashioned stoush or yet another drab local derby? 3) Are the kiwis THAT far ahead of everyone? 4) Will Eddies’ England bring the hurt to the Wallabies? 5) Cheika is off overseas. Which overseas based Aussie should he…

Importance It is still early days in the season but none-the-less it is a top of the table clash for the Aussie Conference with the Brumbies in top spot visiting Perth on their way to their two game South African tour. Have you ever contemplated who was the better team out of our three most recent Champion Super Rugby teams? I certainly haven’t, but there are some loonies lurking in the shadows of Green and Gold Rugby who not only think the ’11 Reds or ’14 Waratahs could match it with the ’04 Brumbies, but were better sides! The debate is on like Donkey Kong, or Samo as he liked being called. Debaters: Firstly we have me, Bobas, on the affirmative Brumby side of the debate, the intellectual angle. Secondly, Rugby Reg, who I’ve been informed has tested negative yet again…

Barbarians v Argentina – Full Match Highlights
Starters [one_third last=”no”] 1. Scott Sio A very quiet game with only 1/3 tackles from 58 minutes. Scrum held up well while he was on. 5[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 2. Stephen Moore 8/9 tackles in 54 minutes. Needs to shoulder some of the blame for our below par line-out. 5[/one_third][one_third last=”yes”] 3. Sekope Kepu Was really happy with the level of intensity he brought around the park even if he was penalised for tackling Carter. 9/9 Tackling effort in his 58 minutes and a couple of dominant carries too. 6[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 4. Kane Douglas Crippled by injury after 14 minutes, made 3/3…
Starters [one_third last=”no”] 1. James Slipper Lived up to his name and slipped in the first scrum. Penalised twice in scrums, the first occasion was the 2nd scrum of the match. 52mins played but a poor 5/10 in the tackling department. 4[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 2. Stephen Moore A solid outing for Moore, did very little wrong in his 62mins completing 9/9 tackles, set the platform for his hooking partner. 6[/one_third][one_third last=”yes”] 3. Sekope Kepu A quiet game from Kepu, but he did okay in his 52mins, not many errors and 6/7 tackles. 5[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 4. Kane Douglas “Daredevil” was on the whole…
Starters [one_third last=”no”] 1. Scott Sio Gave away 9 points with scrum penalties, took a good pilfer and made 4/5 tackles in his 50min contribution. 4[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 2. Stephen Moore Showed good leadership to go to the corner late in the first half, but a quiet game with only 5 runs and 4/4 tackles in 61mins. 5[/one_third][one_third last=”yes”] 3. Sekope Kepu A better work rate, 10/10 tackles in his 53 mins. 6[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 4. Kane Douglas 10/11 tackles, but the sting he showed in the last two weeks has begun to vanish. Played out the whole 80mins. 5[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 5.…
Starters [one_third last=”no”] 1. Scott Sio Another seven for Sio, he was dominant on his side of the scrum and busy around the park, he also assisted a key tackle, holding up George North whilst they had a two man advantage. 62mins for 7 tackles. 7[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 2. Stephen Moore Moore followed up his good form from last week with another great display. The cuts to his bald head showed his grit and determination and his respectful but direct communications with Joubert went a long way to ensuring the win. (Marched ten metres for slowing the play, but no marks…
Starters [one_third last=”no”] 1. Scott Sio Is it just me or is this guy playing like a veteran but still getting better. Adapted after his first scrum penalty and put the chariot into reverse after that. 7[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 2. Stephen Moore Moore put in a better performance than recently and led from the front as captain. 6[/one_third][one_third last=”yes”] 3. Sekope Kepu An outrageous flick pass to Beale to open up the space for Foley’s first try, was part of scrum wallaby on a dominant night. 8[/one_third][one_third last=”no”] 4. Kane Douglas This is what we were hoping “Dare-Devil Douglas” could bring…
Something to make you feel a little better, video highlights of a very Australian World XV stretching their legs against Japan. Spoilers: Waratahs’ Naiyaravoro does get a hat trick but the best highlight for me is Taqele selfishly denying Lealiifano a try before the Brumbies Rugby’ veteran unselfishly denies himself one!
The Lions host the Brumbies at 01:05am this Sunday (Saturday night [5:05pm local]) in what will be a very good reason to stay up. The Lions have an extra win (7-5) but trail the Brumbies on the ladder due to the Brumbies (6-6) leading the tournament in bonus points. This is another crucial game in terms of who will make the finals for super rugby 2015. Teams For the Lions Muller and Kruger have been moved into the forward pack. Jantjies and de Klerk both get starts, making a new halves combination from last week. Mapoe is also back from…
At 01:05am AEST Sunday (Saturday night) the Stormers host the Brumbies at Newlands in Capetown. This game is incredibly crucial to the finals hopes of both teams. Team Similarities and Match Importance Both teams have played eleven matches with the Stormers 7th (7-4) winning one extra than the Brumbies 3rd (6-5). This is despite the Brumbies being only two competition points ahead (due to eight bonus points to two in favour of the Canberians). The Brumbies ladder position is also inflated due to the automatic qualifying spots and the Waratahs one point behind with a game in hand. Based on…
This instalment of The Tuesday Top Five counts down: Pocock v Hooper, Melbourne Rebels Rising, Mitchell’s Timing, Force Unearth New Star, Return of Palmer. 5. Pocock v Hooper In the only Aussie derby from last weekend’s super rugby round David Pocock and Michael Hooper squared off in what retrospectively should have been referred to as the fight of the century. Both men played the game admirably and didn’t dodge the hard stuff (unlike Mayweather). They showed that the others’ strength isn’t necessarily their personal weakness. Both have their hands up firmly for a wallaby starting spot. Hooper won the battle,…
This round 8 clash sees the ACT Brumbies host the Free State Cheetahs @ 7:40pm at Bruce Stadium. The overall standings ladder shows this as a 2nd v 12th battle with the home team coming off the bye eleven competition points higher, but this game by no means is a forgone conclusion and an upset could be on the cards. Form Both Teams haven’t registered a win in a few weeks, the Brumbies last won against the Reds in Round 5, whereas the Cheetahs last won all the way back in Round 3 in Bloemfontein against the Blues. The Brumbies…
Round four of the 2015 Super XV competition gets underway tomorrow and it will see the ACT Brumbies host the Western Force at GIO stadium @ 19:40 AEDT. The Brumbies have made a solid start to their campaign having only lost one game (away to the Chiefs) where as the Force after knocking over the defending champs in Sydney have lost some form in recent weeks. Last week In round three the Brumbies got a tight (5pt) win away from home in Melbourne in trying conditions (a very wet 2nd half). The Brumbies missed 26 tackles and conceded 3 line…
We’ve been waiting a very long time to see Henry Speight play a test for the Wallabies. Here’s three videos, one from the last three years showcasing how devastating on attack this player can be. Hopefully, although wearing number 11 he finds himself in similar situations this weekend!
