4. Now let’s talk Wallabies
Let’s put aside the positional debates for a minute. Let’s put aside provincial rivalries as well, and ruminate on something that should make us all pretty happy- Aussie playing stocks are looking great at the moment.
Take Brumbieman’s analysis of the options for Wallaby 10- regardless of how you would order them, he listed seven options for the 10 jersey, with #7 being the player who led us to victories over England, Argentina, Italy and Wales. And he didn’t even include Bernard Foley, who is in great form while not yet on the Wallaby radar. This is undoubtedly a positive thing. Blokes across the country are putting their hand up, and for the first time in ages we have some agonising decisions around the selection table.
We have almost no injuries (touch wood), which has a lot to do with it after the carnage of 2012. Also, blokes are just starting to peak as we approach the business end of the year- think Higginbotham, Cooper, Horwill, O’Connor, Lealiifano, Palu, Ashley-Cooper. Forget the Lions, we stand a red hot crack at beating the All Blacks, as some of their established players have been woefully out of form.
Could this be the year we truly have a crack at the #1 mantle? Let’s hope so.
