During the Reds’ resurgence year in 2010, they fell just short of appearing in the finals for the first time in years. This year’s outcome looks to be pretty similar. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly think the Reds of 2012 have the game to make a real fist of finals should they get that far, but it is never a good situation to be in to need other things to happen to make it. It’s much better having your destiny in your own hands. So, what are these scenarios? Basically, it goes a little like this… There are two…
This was one of the games this round that will have plenty of bearing on the shape of the finals series in 2012. The simple fact: the loser could start thinking about their end-of-season activities, the winner was still in with a chance. The Reds were back at Lang Park for the first time in seven weeks, and they were playing in a commemorative jersey to boot. After a traditional Aboriginal welcoming to the teams, the game was ready to go. The Highlanders were on the attack early, and after several penalties at scrum time, it was clear the Reds…
If we come, they will build it. After the great feedback from our Sanga, Drink and Rugby Competition a few weeks back we have decided to run another. This time, in the spirit of the If we come, they will build it motto, a couple of great companies have joined us to make it more worth your while. Firstly, thanks to St.George for showing their ongoing support of grassroots rugby by providing an official 2012 Reds jersey signed by the whole team. They obviously throw a bit of dough at the Reds themselves but they also have a great focus…
If we come, they will build it. We are launching our new 3rd tier competition tomorrow in a separate post, but just to give you some tips, it will be fun and there are a couple of great prizes that have been donated by St.George Bank and Gilbert. I will continue to trawl the forum threads for each competition when putting this post together for match reviews, so if you are at a game, jot a couple of lines down, post them in the relevant thread and I will include it in next week’s edition. Queensland Premier Rugby Join the…

Gagger, Timmsy and Sam Ikin get together to chat with Nic White and have a bit of a wang. We also attempt to fix all the ARU’s, and by extension, the Waratahs problems. Podcast Powered By Podbean Download this episode (right click and save)
This was a game many of the Reds faithful had marked out as one the team could probably do without them, but with the news that the prodigal son Quade, was back, they turned out. As it happened The Lions were staying true to form at the start of the match, running everything. The Reds had to do plenty of tackling. Eventually the gave a penalty away in a kickable position, and Elton Jantjies slotted it to take the Lions into the lead. This continued and when the Lions kicked a midfield bomb, Kev had lined himself under the high ball.…
Last week we announced a competition around our #3rdtier drive to get people out to watch some real rugby. Today I get to announce the winner. Congratulations to Gillian Maddigan (@gmaddigan) on Twitter. Not only did she get a great day out with sunshine, good food & drink and a good game of club rugby, she also gets the Beau Robinson signed apron to use as she sees fit. We will get your prize out to you… Excitingly, we have also managed to organise a new and bigger prize as our #3rdtier campaign gathers steam. This is only going to…
Quade Cooper is starting at 10. Bang. That is about how long it took to turn this Saturday’s (admittedly must win) encounter against the Lions into a big deal. If you are interested, here is the presser where his return is announced: With that announcement, both the Lions match become one worth getting to and the news of Higgers departing was, not buried, but not really talked about. There has been much said about the Reds woes at 10 so it is good to hear that they are getting him back. The Biggest thing he will bring to the…
If we come, they will build it. There is an announcement coming for the Photo Comp run last week, but here is the latest from the #3rdtier. If you have been following along at home, you would have gotten wind of a comp this weekend for the 3rdTier. In order to further encourage you to get out to a game and support the clubs, we have secured a BBQ apron to give away. We were a bit worried that a BBQ apron wasn’t quite enough, so we made sure it had the Australian flag on it. Still unsure if that would be enough, we got Wallaby and Reds flanker Beau Robinson to scribble his name on it. Beau was an obvious choice as people following the #3rdtier…
If we come, they will build it. This week, sitting in the stands enjoying the sunshine, great rugby and a sausage sanga and a beer, I got the idea to post a photo of said Sanga, Beer and Rugby. So as discussed on last nights podcast, the competition is open to you. Post us the your photos of a Sanga (steak or sausage), drink (Doesn’t have to be beer, kids can enter too) and club rugby to win a prize. The prize is a BBQ apron signed by Beau Robinson, who jumped on the #3rdtier with gusto, tweeting from the…
Everyone gets excited for a final replay, and it is no exception for this one. Though there are plenty of difference from the big one last year. The Crusaders are actually playing in Christchurch again, and they are clearly enjoying it. They have shaken off the shackles of the somewhat traditional early season form and are really starting to hit their straps. The most noticeable, for me, occasion of this was their clinical display against the Stormers. Since they have gone from strength to strength A great example of this is one Dan Carter is unable to claim his preferred…
As I discussed last week, we need to take the responsibility of building the third tier of rugby in Australia. If we come, they will build it. On Saturday as I was getting my umbrella and jacket ready to head out to Easts to follow my own advice, I got the idea to start a hash tag on twitter. So I tweeted with the tag #3rdtier. It got a bit of traction, thanks to those who jumped on board, but it’s not enough. We need to get that tag trending every Saturday, they take notice of Social media, so get…
Gagger makes an appearance with Sam Ikin and me, and we’re joined by Brumby Scott Fardy and his beard. We have a wang on all things Australian Rugby, and try to decode the last round of contract negotiations. We also begin the pump-up of our new “Play-up” hangout — more details to come once we figure them out. And, a reminder to tweet with #3rdtier if you are getting out to a club game. If we come, they will build it. But I digress… on with the show… Podcast Powered By Podbean Download this episode (right-click and save) Subscribe on…
