ISA I 35 – CAS I 33
First half
After some bursts by 12 Luke Lough ISA spent some time in the CAS 22 and eventually 11 Thomas scored.
But CAS got the ball straight after the kick off before ISA could set their defence and 9 Harrison was over the line.
Both tries were converted and the score was tied up at 7-7.
From the ISA restart CAS scored again as 4 Summerhayes stepped the fullback and scored under the posts. With the conversion CAS took the lead 14-7 at about 17 minutes.
After a period in in the CAS 22 ISA was given a penalty and instead of going for goal took the scrum option.
Their instincts were right and the impressive Luke Lough scored scored on the right hand side. The conversion by 9. Goddard tied things up at 14-14 and they scored another try just before the break from another set move when Thomas outflanked ISA and ran around under the posts.
At half time ISA was leading 21-14.
There wasn’t a lot in this game and maybe the last one to score would win because both sides were vulnerable to breaks on the edges of the defensive lines.
Second half
CAS were down in ISA territory when 13 Watson scored for CAS about the time when the rain started, but ISA attacked right from the restart and 6 Walker scored.
ISA were ahead by four converted tries to three: 28-21.
The teams were almost taking turns as CAS charged upfield with the rain heavier now and 11 Edelstein scored. Crucially the conversion missed but CAS were behind 26-28 and it didn’t seen to matter when 14 Price scored for them for a lead of 33-28 after the conversion.
But ISA attacked again from the kick-off and 8 James Lough scored latched onto by 2 Nettleton to tie the game up 31-31.
With the key kick of the day 9. Goddard slotted a wet ball through the sticks to win the game for ISA 33-31.
This was a cracking match in the wet conditions and the goal kicking from both teams was first rate.
