Hi everyone, and welcome to Green and Gold Rugby 2.0.
As part of a new online strategy for Fairfax Digital, your favourite Aussie rugby blog has been acquired by Rugby Heaven to be the blogging arm of their iconic flagship operation. It will be the new online home for all your favourite columnists – Spiro Zavos, Jamie Pandaram, Josh Rakic and of course our Chief Rugby Correspondent, Greg Growden.
All your favourite Rugby Heaven features like player ratings and live scores will be part of the new G&GR. And of course there’ll still be regular guest pieces from icons and legends such as John Eels, Matt Bourke and Adam Fryer.
We’re really excited about the journey ahead, and thrilled to be setting sail under the iconic flag of G&GR. We’ll be building on the great work done by Matt and the boys over the past few years – and with no disrespect to the old team, I’m sure it’s recognised that G&GR was at the point where it needed a shot of professionalism and strategic guidance.
Speaking of professionalism, we’ll be working closely with the ARU, Waratahs management and other key stakeholders to ensure that we’re giving an accurate picture of the elite end of rugby. This is our commitment to you.
In turn, we’re hoping you, the G&GR community, will sustain your commitment to the site. We want your responses to be part of the blogs, because we recognise that’s what interactivity is all about.
Naturally, in future comments will be moderated, and may be closed off. And in line with Fairfax Digital policy, you’ll be required to login to the site via Facebook. This will ensure that users’ real names appear beside their comments, adding to the sense of real community that we’ll be building into G&GR. This will also help us target you with unobtrusive yet entertaining ads that will genuinely enhance your blog reading experience.
These are exciting times here at G&GR, Australia’s premier iconic rugby blog. Stay tuned!

A word from outgoing founder and editor, Matt “Gagger”
G’Day all,
It’s probably the dream of every wanker who starts his own website that one day you’ll get bought out by the corporates. Well, it turns out that dreams do come true, sometimes. They have for this wanker, at any rate!
With effect from midnight, I’ve accepted an offer – a fucking healthy offer if I’m to be honest… actually healthy may not be the right word, because it’s obscenely fat and grossly oversized… anyway, the long and short of it is that Fairfax Digital now owns Green & Gold Rugby, lock stock and two smoking crackpipes. They have big plans for the place, and those plans don’t include me. Nor Moses, Lance, Austin, or anyone else.
Feel free to stick around and see what’s in store for the old girl. She’s done us proud, but she was always a bit opportunistic and it seems appropriate to sell her out to the man with the glad hand now that RWC time has rolled round again.
Gotta dash – lady with suncream is here. Look me up if you’re ever over this way.
