Comment
Congratulations to all the boys picked to represent the state of NSW.
Because Australian selectors want to look at the best players starting as often as possible in the National Championships, the highest rated 15 players are named in the NSW I team and the next highest rated 15 players are named in the NSW II team.
The next eight ranked players are named as reserves for the NSW II team and the remaining eight players become reserves of the NSW I team.
The selectors had to make some tough decisions and although there are a few curly selections, as always, they’ve done their job well in my opinion. See our forum for some interesting dissent:

Readers should note that the NSW selectors are independent of the selectors of the school associations GPS, CAS, CHS and ISA, and have chosen some players for the NSW 1st XV who were in the 2nd XV for their school associations.
Some points of interest:
– The two outstanding props of the trials: Matt Sandell and Junior Satiu, are both tight-head props, but Sandell will play on the loose-head side for NSW Schools I.
– The two outstanding fullbacks of the trials: Andrew Kellaway and Harry Jones, are both selected in the 1st XV, but Jones will play on the wing.
– After two sterling games for the GPS IIs, flanker Jack McCalman is promoted to the NSW Is
– Selectors overlooked the sin-binning of Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco today and he will play at no.8 for NSW I, with Angus Crichton switching to the blindside flank.
– The NSW selectors preferred the GPS II halves’ pairing of 9. Mitchell Short and 10. Andrew Deegan for the NSW 1st XV, after their brilliant play against CAS II and CHS II this week – and in their second half stint against CHS I today.
Commiserations to the lads who missed out but several of them will be chosen in the Combined States team which also competes in the National Championships.
