GPS II 24 — CHS II 7
CHS had a spirited first quarter of the game but GPS were the first to score after a sweeping move completed by winger J. Prindiville.
The rain was over and the sun came out but the ball was wet.
Just before oranges GPS scored again when hooker Pritchard had a bullocking run and popped a pass to J. Woodhill who scored with a dubious grounding. 12. Latinupulu converted both tries to make the score 14-0 to GPS IIs.
After play resumed GPS got a lot of possession and CHS cracked when lock Rudolf, who was playing impressively, scored. No conversion: GPS 19-0.
GPS were looking good despite using a wet ball. The combination of 9 Duffy and 10 O’Shea was working well, and the tight five was excellent.
It took about an hour of play for CHS to get on the board but it was worth waiting for when the popular loosehead prop “Jumbo” Lotoaniu left a couple of defenders spread-eagled to dot the ball down near the posts. The conversion made the score more respectable at 19-7 for GPS.
He wasn’t the only one in CHS that was hard to stop: big 8. Lealaiauloto-Tui used every vowel to run over GPS tacklers.
After O’Shea scored for GPS the final score was GPS II 24 – CHS II 7.
This was a good effort from the CHS lads since they had drawn with CAS IIs two weeks before, and GPS II had thrashed that team by 48 points.
