CAS Round 9 match reports

Here are some brief “match on the run” reports from other games:

Waverley 35 —  Aloys  29

It was a very good game by St Aloys who really put it to Waverley.

Several Waverley players did not have their best games and may have taken St Aloys a bit lightly after their win against Barker last week. This was nearly a big mistake as the first foray by Aloys into the Waverley half was almost a pushover try from a fast-moving rolling maul.

Waverley had problems with their kicking and lineouts in the first half and were only four points ahead at half-time.

Aloys went over for a try and were one point ahead but Duffy replied with a penalty goal for Waverley to retake the lead, by two.

Williams kicked a penalty for Aloys to leapfrog Waverley again, by one point, which set up a stirring finish. Waverley spent about four minutes trying to cross the Aloys line and eventually breached the strong Aloys’ defence in the dying seconds.

The game ended after the try was converted by Duffy, and Waverley had won 35-29.

Barker 40 — Trinity 13

This was a nice flowing game played in a good spirit.

Barker had dominant wins in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc, but the day was marred by two nasty leg injuries to Trinity boys in the 2nds match – a serious looking knee injury and a broken leg that required a stretcher.

For Trinity: LHP Jackson McLean was very damaging.

For Barker: Devan Stoltz (12) was strong on defence as usual. Lloyd (7) who is usually the half back for the 2nds, had an outstanding game as a flanker.
