Make Australian Rugby Great Again

I’d like to start with an apology. You may have noticed that we didn’t write a review for this game. That was my job this week. I was at the match taking photos and rely on my recording to do the match review as looking through the camera lens rarely give you a big picture view of the game. Anyway when I got home there was no recording! Hence no review. In my head I have this feeling that the Reds were pretty good for 60 minutes and truly terrible for 20. I wasn’t going to write a review based…

For years now the games against the Crusaders has been one of the highlights of many Reds fans season. But this years match has a very different feel. The patched up and under performing Reds limp into the game against a Crusaders side that can only be described as on fire. The Reds will be desperate to salvage anything from a disastrous season while the Crusaders will look to continue their charge up the Super Rugby rankings. Key Match ups Ben Daley v Owen Franks Daley has had a long lay off with injury and hasn’t look great in the…

It seems like we talk about last chances for the Queensland Reds every week. This week’s game looms as a huge test as they take on the inform Hurricanes. This is the Reds first trip to New Zealand this year and they will need to perform like the Reds of old to take the points. While they have shown glimpses they have been all too fleeting this year. Who will take the points? Can the Reds get ‘up’ for James Horwills 100th match? Or will the Hurricanes continue on their march up the New Zealand conference ladder? The Match The…

5. The Empire strikes back Well the Rebels are hardly an empire. But sadly the Force’s winning streak has come to an end. In my opinion it was the ankle injury to Alby Mathewson that finally broke the proverbial Camels back. The little half back has been on fire lately and I think he was the form nine in the Australian conference until the injury. This week the Force face the Bulls in front of their ‘sea of blue’. The bulls are having a horror tour but that doesn’t negate the size of the men running around in the single…

5. Are the Waratahs 100%…? It may seem funny considering how my teams going right now, but I wonder if the Waratahs are fully committed to their game plan. In Round three when they blew the Queensland Reds off the park it was all  ‘Shock and Awe’. Now it’s ‘seen it all before’. I can remember, just a few weeks ago, when the Tahs would kick off they would all line up on the ten metre line and scream up the field. It was one of the most impressive strategies I’ve seen all year. Last weekend the Tahs still lined…

The Brumbies completely dominated the first half territory and possession to take a well deserved 20-10 lead into half time. They scored 2 tries to one and would have felt pretty comfortable running out after oranges. The Queensland Reds had other ideas however, and turned the game on it’s head after oranges. They set up shop in the Brumbies half a barely left it for the forty minutes. In that time they scored another try of their own. It must have been especially pleasing considering they completely destroyed the Brumbies scrum in the process. But I can’t help but wonder…

While Hugh Cavil is away I’m taking over the Tuesday Top Five. Go your hardest. 5. Israel Folau did not play! And the Waratahs still won… Away… In South Africa. Add Palu to the injured list and despite the ridiculous fake laughing he went on with in the coaches box every time a decision went against his team Cheika must be pretty happy with his teams efforts. Yes it was ugly but the Stormers don’t let anyone play pretty rugby against them. And what about the form of some of the Waratahs! Tatafu Polota-Nau, Jacques Potgeiter, Michael Hooper, Nick Phipps,…

It’s been a tough start to the 2014 Super Rugby season for the Reds. This is the fifth of their first six games that have been away from home and the quality of the opposition is not dropping off at all. The Lions have been one of the surprise packets of 2014, taking on and defeating some more fancied opponents. The good news is that the Reds know the game plan. Work hard, win the penalty and give the ball to Marnitz Boshoff! Key Match ups The Reds v the Ref and Marnitz Boshoff Lions flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff has racked…
