Waratahs 39 Blues 32 Tahs fans won’t be whingeing after their team beat the Blues at the SFS last night. They booed their team off the park 3 weeks ago when they beat the Sharks in a squeaker. In that game they reverted to ping pong rugby in the 2nd half. But last night the Tahs had a go at using the ball, and since the Blues always chance their arm, it made for match that was tough, entertaining and exciting. After a bad start and 0-14 down the Blues came at the Tahs in wave after wave. They charged…
The Tahs gave their few remaining fans a nice fuzzy feeling tonight at the SFS scoring 11 tries but they shouldn’t let it go to their heads because the Lions were crap. The visitors played their customary 7s attacking game keeping the ball alive but they would have been better served at getting more structure into their game. They lost the ball at lot with poor passing and pushing the pass instead of going to ground with the ball safe. To make things worse they were slow to establish defensive lines when turnovers happened. For a change the Tahs…
Waratahs 25 Sharks 21 It was the same old shit different year for Tahs fans as Hickey’s men dished up a crapfest. The Sharks were better but not much – they were on the nose too. I was chatting to some members as we were lining up for the doors to open and eyeing each other as to who had the pace to race up 3 flights of stairs to get the best seats. (Old Lee had a good run too – walking the dogs every night pays off). Anyhoo, folks were expecting a bit of running rugby. Even though…
Brumbies • Matt To’omua was my MOTM. I have never seen him have such a good running game as tonight. He had a much better night than Lealiifano playing 12. Nor did Mortlock look that special. • AAC – rather than write 2 paragraphs, here’s 2 words – sheer class. Add a third: surety. • Frankie Fainifo looked bloody dangerous every time the Ponies got the ball to him which was not that often because they usually dropped it before it got out there. Once he beat Carter when he got him going the wrong way and he dished it…
Waratahs fans will expect a better performance from their team in 2010. They were not happy campers in 2009. By now they will have forgotten that the Tahs nearly made the finals last year after finishing the season in the RSA with 3 wins out of 3. And they won’t remember, or care much about, how well their pack performed game after game. A lot of the Sydney crowd are not hard-core rugby heads. They like a winner, but love to be entertained more. No, what the Sydney fans at the ground will remember is the melancholy procession of dreary…
