The NSW Waratahs are gearing up for their first trial match of 2025, taking on NSW Pasifika at Eric Tweedale Stadium in Granville, Sydney, this Saturday.
Head Coach Dan McKellar has named a 27-player squad, opting to give game time to those who’ve been slogging it out during pre-season. Notably, winger Darby Lancaster is the sole returnee from the Wallabies’ Spring tour to make the lineup.
McKellar emphasized the importance of rewarding hard work, stating, “We want to provide an opportunity for the players who have done the majority of pre-season, who have worked hard here, a chance to get game time.” He added that while mistakes are expected, the focus is on effort and fight.
The match is part of a triple-header event, featuring the NSW Waratahs Under 20s and Women’s teams also facing their NSW Pasifika counterparts.
Fans can look forward to an exciting display of running rugby, with NSW Pasifika representative Jason Lemusu promising a showcase of Pacific Island flair and culture.
The Waratahs will continue their pre-season preparations with a second trial against the ACT Brumbies at Bowral Rugby Club on February 1, before kicking off their Super Rugby Pacific season on February 14 against the Highlanders at Allianz Stadium.
