The disbelief at Suncorp continued through the first 35 minutes, when the Reds were at mercy of the visitors. But when even the truest of the Reds’ faithful started to lose belief in their XV, the game changed dramatically.
The Reds came back from their own ashes: trailing 6 – 17 in the first half. They looked well and truly gone, but a try to Rob Simmons four minutes before the break, and three tries from a powerful display in the first 15 minutes of the second half, turned the game on its head.
The Queensland outfit beat the Melbourne side comprehensively. The Rebels, not only reverted to their old jumper, but also returned to their old habits of conceding a river of points to their opponents.
