2. Brumbies rolling
The Brumbies barely got out of third gear against the Hurricanes, but still managed to put them away pretty easily. The Canes were awful, so you can’t read too much into the result, but the signs are still good for the Brumbies.
The victory was built on good forward continuity and impact around the fringes. Mowen, Fardy and Moore really stepped up here, as did Nic White. This created space that McCabe, Mogg and Speight used to put the hapless Canes to the sword. BP wins are like hen’s teeth in New Zealand, so it was a great result.
Much like the Reds I think the signs are good for the Brumbies in these early stages. They aren’t looking like world beaters, but if they can keep progressing they will certainly be there or thereabouts at the end of the season. The talent is there, and a few good wins like that will have the self-belief back as well.
This week will be a big week, though. The Tahs are the best looking side in the conference, but the Brumbies at home will be looking to put them back in their box. If their forwards front up then there is every chance of that happening, but they will need to be clever in attack to find a middle ground between the Tahs physical defence and kicking to their potent back three. It should be a blockbuster game, I can’t wait!
