Defence
Both teams were asked to make 119-130 tackles during the match, depending on which stats site you use. Either way both teams were asked to do a similar amount of defensive work. In spite of this, the Wallabies managed to miss 16 of their tackles while the Lions only missed seven.
Pilfers were another area where the Wallabies fell short, achieving only two (Mowen, Horwill) to the Lions’ six (Heaslip 2, Sexton, Davies, North, Vunipola). Neither openside flanker was able to take the ball off of the floor in 80 minutes of rugby (although Hooper played 34 minutes at inside centre).
