West v Souths

It was another case of so close yet so far for Wests this weekend as fell agonisingly short being beaten by Souths 34-25 in round 9 of Qld Premier Rugby.
The game started off in a tentative fashion, with both teams having their fair share of ball and territory. It took ten minutes of see-sawing between each end of the field before wests posted the first points of the match via a penalty kick of the boot of scrumhalf Tim Smith. However Souths aren’t the kind of team to be repelled for long and answered in timely fashion when captain James Turner crashed over the line.
The arm wrestle continued as Wests stringed together before spinning it wide for centre Devyn Smith to touchdown. While the dogs where managing to find space out wide, Souths decided to take a more direct approach to scoring crashing over for two meat pies in quick succession. Firstly James Turner crossed for his second try off the back of pushover scrum, and then secondly when hulking prop snuck across.
Wests managed to hit back before the half taking the score to 17-15 in Souths favour, and the whispers where going through the bleachers that we had a real game on our hands. The second half went in a much similar manner to first with both teams stealing points and dishing out punishment in defence. However with 15 minutes left it seemed that wests had the upper hand holding 1 point lead over their southern enemies.
However it was not to be as Souths rallied the troops to storm home to get the win. It was heartbreak again for the doggies who seemingly have developed the knack for letting much deserved wins slip through their fingers. However credit to Souths who showed the type of character it takes to be champions, as they continuously clawed back every scoreboard deficit they faced in what was a truly entertaining spectacle of rugby.
