1. Nudgee College – 122.549
It should come as no surprise that the 4-1 Nudgee College side is the GPS’s most statistically powerful side.
After coming so close in 2012, Nudgee’s 2013 team has worked themselves in to a position where an easy run to the title should see them finish on top, if fate can hold up it’s end of the bargain.
Nudgee finished the season slowly, with spluttering games against BGS and BBC where the butcher stripes could very easily have lost both, before being shot down by a resurgent Churchie side hellbent on upsetting the competition favourites. Nudgee returned from this shocking loss to register a powerful win against Southport in round 3, ensuring they had largely escaped through their dangerous first half to the season. With all other contenders on 2 losses, and Southport and a loss and a draw, Nudgee has the pole position in the race to Round 9.
After 5 rounds, Nudgee stands at a commanding 0.800 win percentage, which when coupled with a relatively hard 0.470 SOS rating (on paper at least – in reality it was much harder than this as TSS and BGS are much stronger teams than their win percentage makes out) and a 2 win streak has resulted in the most powerful ranking in the GPS, but only just.
With Churchie and GT just 1 point behind, the Power Rankings are almost certain to change after Round 6.
For an NBA equivalent, I can’t go past the Miami Heat. LeBron, D-Wade and Chris Bosh’s side haven’t got nuthin’ on Nudgee though as the butcher stripes will look to go undefeated in the rest of the season by steamrolling GT at Jack Ross this Saturday.
