Make Australian Rugby Great Again

South Africa are red hot favourites for this match, but Argentina are in a rare run of form with wins against New Zealand and Australia under their belts. This should be an interesting game. The first half The Springboks dominated the first 10 minutes, racing out to a 17-0 lead, and it seemed they could score at will. Then, the game shifted towards Argentina, and they had most of the run of play for the rest of the half. In that time, they managed to score 26 unanswered points through four entertaining tries. And it was only in the dying…

It’s just me and KARL this week, with Happyman unavailable. We have a chat about the four games played in the RC so far, then discuss how we think the All Black and Wallaby tours will go, and finish off with a lively discussion about the high contact law. We manage to do that in just under 55 minutes for those timing us. If you have a question for anyone on the podcast, please send it to sully@greenandgoldrugby.com

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. As I sit here waiting for the tour match between the Reds and Wales to start, I can’t help but feel a little sad that this doesn’t happen more often. You see kiddies, back in the days when Keith and Brisnie were young men, you had to take a steamship and/or a train to tour anywhere, tours weren’t a few weeks they were a few months. You didn’t just spend a few weeks travelling to the colonies to teach the antipodean scum some manners and ruggers in a couple of test matches, you…

This week, we’ve dumped KARL and bought in regular G&GR commenter Georgia Satellite, who has spent plenty of time in Georgia and Russia over the years. We talk about the Reds taking on Wales in Queensland, the Wallabies game against Georgia in Sydney and the All Blacks game against Fiji in the US. As well as our usual segments. You can now also listen on YouTube. If you have a question for anyone on the podcast, please send it to sully@greenandgoldrugby.com

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. Look, I love the Northern Hemisphere tours every July. But there’s one thing that comes with them that really frickin’ annoys me, and it’s their bastardisation of team sheets with their 15-9 then 1-8 then 16-23 set up. It’d be no surprise to you that money was the original incentive for numbers on jerseys. In the late 1800s there was a big black market for counterfeit match programmes, so the Aussie and Kiwi club managements figured out a good way to get patrons to buy their official programmes was to put numbers on…

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. There’s nothing quite as exciting in rugby, for me at least, as the week before the first test match of the year. The slow build up that starts with speculation of the first squad of the year, then the naming of that squad, followed by the outrage and/or elation when your favourite player misses out or makes the squad, the speculation over the first test team, the leaks of the first test team, the naming of the first test team, the outrage and/or elation when your favourite player misses out or makes the…

The news hot out of Sydney is that the only guy good enough to save the struggling Waratahs is a QUEENSLANDER, Dan McKellar. The hope is that once McKellar is signed and sealed they can then sign ex-Queensland Reds player, Taniela Tupou, and then maybe ex-Queensland Reds player, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, and some guy who wishes he was from Queensland named Leota. The Shouty site exclusive states that McKellar has beaten out non-Queenslander, Scott Wisemantel, despite missing the deadline for resumes and submitting his three-page cover letter in the outdated .doc format. No word so far on who might make up…

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. This week I’d like to talk a little about the mystery of Angus Blyth making the Wallaby squad. Angus played in just five games this year, averaging 46 minutes per game. Injuries bookended his season, he wasn’t sighted until round eight and then only for five minutes. In round nine he was on for 28 minutes before getting his first start, in round ten, when he played for 73 minutes. He started the next two games and then was injured again. I’ve always said that Angus Blyth has everything it takes to be…

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. This week, I’d like to take a look at the Super Rugby crowd numbers one of our forum members originally posted in 2019. I’ve added the last five years as best I could, but with limited information and the Waratahs moving around to different grounds, it’s been difficult piecing things together. Also, I may just be plain wrong in some cases. Remember that crowd numbers were understandably lower during the COVID pandemic. Reds (from 2005 all home games at Suncorp)2003 – 18,425* (home games at Ballymore)2004 – 19,730** (5 home games at Ballymore…

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. I’ve just finished a couple of night shifts and am currently navigating that twilight zone between vampire and normal human being. So please excuse me if some of this doesn’t make sense. I have heard for years that “there isn’t enough talent to support five teams in Australia”. But, if you look across the five Australian Super Rugby sides this is clearly not true. Even the Waratahs, who came last in this year’s comp, are full of talented rugby players. I’ve talked before about how I think the real problem with our Super…

Welcome, once again, to the Weekend Edition. I won’t tell you what happened in games on Friday night, and I’m not going to tell you what I think is going to happen in games that’re on Saturday afternoon, or on Sunday. But, I’m not going to stop you talking about those games in the comments; in fact, I’d love it. So, what will I write about? I’m interested in the news that falls through the cracks each week. I’m hoping to pick up the odd bit of news that comes in after Hoss’s marathon news-gathering efforts on Fridays. If that…
