Four weeks into the season now and things are still looking good for our group. Our league average is now clear of our closest competition by more than 100 points and looks to be putting on distance each week. Much of that success we owe to our league leader for the 3rd straight week — Steven Hawkin Rugby. The man is still tops overall in FoxSports, with a pretty solid lead over #2. How does he do it? Well leading our league in points for this round after coming 2nd last week is a good start. This round was a…
So this week wasn’t as bat-shit crazy as the last in terms of tries/points being scored but it was still a big week for the G&GR League regardless. Lots of good scores being put up out there, and as a whole, we’re chugging along to say the least. Also, you might have noticed that the ‘Fantasy Cup’ portion of the game has kicked in, pitting your team against someone else’s in a head-to-head match up every week. Assuming you keep winning that is…. Best of luck to all of you, maybe one of our bunch will come out on top!…
Cracker of a week to say the least. Big game scores usually means big fantasy scores and this week didn’t disappoint. I felt pretty good with almost 400 points this week (20 more than last week) and I lost ground! If you didn’t clear 450 points you pretty much did the same by the looks of it. This week blew any fantasy round of last year out of the water in terms of magnitude. One example of this is the top overall score for the round – 549 points! I can’t remember anything close to that last year. Our own…
Things are off to a great start in the G&GR Fantasy League. Our league average (taken from top 5) is 1st out of a whopping 1,163 in the overall competition and blowing the Planet Rugby and RugbyDump leagues out of the water! Not too shabby at all. Doing us proud at the front is ManBearPigs with 413 points for the opening week. That’s good enough for 15th in the entire comp and 1st overall for South Park references, so well done! By the way, our numbers are up to a hefty 171 participants, with a few late additions still coming…
Only two days before the transaction deadline, so if you’re going to start a team get crackin! Most of you have probably spent a decent chunk of time tinkering with your squad (I know I have) and maybe have a good idea of who you want on your team. In the event that you’re still undecided about some things, this entry will attempt to offer a few strategy tips. Feel free to offer any of your own below. I don’t have all that much experience doing this, but last year worked out pretty well, so I”ll offer a few of…
Greetings boys and girls! Only 9 days left until the first squad deadline — I hope you’ve been thinking about who to select for your team. We’re already nearing 100 members in the league, so big thanks to those that who have signed up. If you haven’t joined and have been thinking about it, GET ON IT ALREADY! With a double gold test pass up for grabs, it’s well worth your effort! And for the first-timers out there, here’s a little guide to get you started:
PRIZE ANNOUNCED: A double Gold Pass to the Wallabies home test of your choice in 2010. Thanks to the ARU! We’re running a fantasy league again this year in addition to the tipping comp, so be sure to sign up for both — already quite a few takers in the tipping comp. Throughout the season I’ll be covering our league standings, as well as offeriing a few tips and predictions. So come back often! Here’s how to join:
Saturday’s disappointment in Wellington signaled the close of the 2009 Tri-Nations, and brought about the close of our fantasy and tipping comps. The numbers are in, the results have been tallied, so let’s take a look! Everyone pretty much bombed this week in the fantasy comp. The scores were much lower than everyone’s average for the entire comp. Why? Maybe the lack-luster performance on the field? Or perhaps it was the fact that no one had any transactions left, and got stuck with a bunch of dropped, injured, or Saffa players in their squad. Only 10 for the entire comp…
It’s getting down to do or die in fantasy land with only a couple chances to jump in the standing left. And it’s still a pretty close race for the top. In yet another example of true game play not translating to fantasy (and vice versa), this weeks top scorer was none other than Benn Robinson’s speedbump. Smit had an awful game, but this fantasy comp is scored in some particularly retarded ways, so go figure… Cheezel is looking to pull away, while myself and the rest of the pack try to keep pace. If you have any trades left,…
An important match for the boys in Sydney this evening. The game also has some interesting fantasy implications. . The players chalking up the highest fantasy points through the early matches have been the South African forwards. Picking the next best from the Wallabies and All Blacks for this week’s test will be tricky as neither side has shown much good form compared to the Saffas. The biggest choice in the forwards would be to go with Squeaky Moore or Andrew Hore as starting hooker. Both have had problems with the lineout lately, and that is a large part of…
Small news compared to the migration of Mr. Barnes, but here’s an update for the G&GR fantasy and tipping leagues The boys from South Africa took the match this week as well as the fantasy accolades. Heinrich Brussow and Juan Smith were top scorers this week totaling 23 points. A bunch of Boks followed them going down the list before any All Blacks popped in at 16 points for the week. Fantasy team ‘The Cheezels’ is so far running away with it for the G&GR league title. The glitch in the tipping league has been fixed, so all the scores…
Here’s the wrap up for the first week of the Tri-Nations contest in the G&GR Fantasy and Tipping Leagues. Members of the All Blacks managed to top score in fantasy rugby, as well as on the pitch. Pirate Captain McCaw led the way with 30 points, while Donald Duck came second with 26 for the match. They were followed by a host of other AB’s. Giteau led the way for the Wallabies with 17 fantasy points. Goal kickers and try scorers do the most damage afterall, so if you had any or all of them in your squad you’re probably…
The GAGR Super14 Fantasy and Tipping comps had a great following, so we’re doing it again for Tri-Nations. For the fantasy comp, register at Sportal. Go to register and enter your user info. The league name is GAGR Tri-Nations Fantasy and the join code is MGP2V4VBY3. You can then pick your team (including an all Wallaby one I think….). But you only get 10 transfers for the whole comp and 2 per round so choose wisely. For tipping, head over to OzTips. Register again and go to join comp. The Comp# is187657 and the Password is GAGRTIP. The winner in…
