About a month ago I wrote a piece about how consistently shithouse rugby advertising is in this country. I claimed that I could produce a better commercial than those currently controlling the ARU account. Well, I am a man of my word and I present to you my attempt at a commercial for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
It is pretty simple really. It shows rugby, and only rugby. No butterflies, no laundromats, no references to broadway musicals. More than that it shows most aspects of the game, and doesn’t solely focus on tries. It highlights our marketable figures- Rocky, JOC, AAC, Gilbert and Quade.
It is set to AC/DC, which gives the ad an Australian flavour but also rocks hard. It is a song that appeals to the masses, as this is an ad to appeal to the masses. It shows rugby as a game of action and aggression. It shows the Wallabies to be shit hot. It ends with a catchy slogan.
Obviously it is lacking a little professional polish, and uploading the ad to youtube has thrown the timing out by a split second. But I think it gets the job done.
What do you think?
