Notable omissions are Tatafu Polota-Nau who “wasn’t considered for selection” as he “he needs time to get his body right”, and Drew Mitchell who will head back to France. Perth Spirit backrower Ben McCalman could also be considered unlucky to make the squad with the selectors option to stick with Melbourne Rising unit, Lopeti Timani. Matt Toomua was not deemed fit to tour.
Other ocasional Wallaby squad members to miss out include Kyle Godwin, Will Skelton and Toby Smith.
Allan Alaalatoa is back in the squad after recovering from knee injury and Nick Frisby is back in the green and gold as the third scrummie. As expected Sefanaia Naivalu will make his first Wallaby tour and could receive his first Wallaby cap as soon as next week while Tolu Latu, who has been in wonderful form for the NSW Country Eagles, has beaten Andrew Ready for the third hooker’s spot.
