1. Holmes to earn a Wallaby recall as Kepu’s back-up:
There are a couple of positives to come out of the Reds this season but the biggie is the form of Greg Holmes. To my eye he is the best performed tight head prop in the Australian conference. His scrummaging, which is 80% of a tight head prop’s job in international games, has looked really solid and in a team that has been poor this year he has definitely looked the goods. Only he and Kepu would give me confidence packing down against England at Twickenham. Its been a long time between caps but I would feel a whole lot better about our scrummaging if Kepu and Holmes were the tight head pillars.
Of the alternatives, Paul Alo-Emile got found out against Slipper when the Rebels played the Reds and Faulkner has had a year to forget. Weeks is injured, but wasn’t looking that flash before he went down. Ben Alexander has had some really poor outings in gold and is too much of a risk at International level.
So, let’s bring back a Wallaby who is now at the height of his powers to show those Poms a bit of stick.
