3. A Thing of Beauty
So far this season the Hurricanes have been the standout team, on the weekend they kept their unbeaten run going with a 5 point win over the Stormers at home (25-20). What occurred in the shadows of half time though was the best try of the season, the kind of try you would tell your grandchildren about.
Earning a turnover deep in their own twenty two the Hurricanes spread the ball wide, even though the Stormers were well aligned. Corey Jane managed to get on the outside of his man and offload to Perenara who gave Brad Shields some space to run. Shields then feeds Ma’a Nonu on his inside shoulder who then gives it back the Shields who delivers a perfect pass to Beauden Barrett in a great supporting position. From there he could just run it in.
The play was brilliant in both its audacity and simplicity. There was no poor read in defence, miracle ball nor individual brilliance. It was just a great team try where each player did everything they could to give the next player their best chance in furthering possession. Pure running rugby using the entire length of the field.
