Despite 61% possession, 41 more runs for 78 more metres, three less kicks for 36 more metres, offloading 6 more times, reaching seven phases more often, performing 50 less tackles, missing 3 less tackles, conceding seven less penalties and looking the better team all night the Chiefs managed to slip behind the Highlanders on the scoreboard with seconds to go.
How? I really can’t tell you. Until those final minute I never gave the Highlanders a chance. They showed amazing grit and determination to put themselves in a position to win and that’s all you really need isn’t it? Just one chance. Well done the mighty Highlanders. You did rugby proud that day.
