Trilleen Pomare is set to lead the Western Force once again as captain for the 2025 Super Rugby WomenÕs season, with local Wallaroo Hera-Barb Malcolm Heke stepping up as vice-captain. The decision came after a player vote during the recent Maali Camp, emphasizing the team’s desire to shape their own path for the upcoming season.
Pomare, a 31-year-old standout from Wanneroo, has been a cornerstone of the Force since its inception in 2018. She made history as the first female player to reach 25 caps and guided the team to its first finals appearance last season. Supporting her is Kalamunda hooker Malcolm Heke, who shone in 2024, earning her Wallaroos debut alongside Pomare against Canada.
Malcolm Heke, who returned to the game after having her son Jade, has become a regular force on the team since her 2019 debut. Head coach Dylan Parsons praised Pomare’s leadership, noting her overwhelming support in the captaincy vote, and highlighted Malcolm Heke’s influential presence both on and off the field.
The team also elected a three-player leadership group to bolster the captain and vice-captain, featuring Michaela Leonard, Anneka Stephens, and Nicole Ledington. Leonard, a seasoned lock, joined the Force from the ACT Brumbies and captained the Wallaroos in 2024. Stephens, a dedicated back-rower and mother of four, impressed with her relentless performance last season. Ledington, a young fly-half, has been honing her skills in both WA and Queensland club rugby.
Parsons expressed confidence in the diverse leadership group, emphasizing their varied experiences and strengths. He noted that Leonard and Stephens bring seniority and respect, while Ledington, a local talent, is poised to grow further in her pivotal role. Together, they aim to drive the team to new heights in the 2025 season.
