1. TMOs and forward passes
There were a couple of farcical decisions made by TMOs this weekend. Those in the Rebels/Chiefs game were particularly baffling.
More often than not refs are referring forward passes upstairs, despite the fact that the TMO is in a far worse position to judge than the on-field officials. Camera angles are misleading, and you are never directly beside a pass. I have seen instances where ref and touch judge were directly in line with a pass, neither called it in real time, but they still referred it upstairs. This stuff is an exercise in futility- it wastes time and invariably pisses off the team who cop the wrong end of the decision.
In my view SANZAR should go the way of the NRL, and ban TMOs from ruling on forward passes. If the refs and touchies can’t pick it up in real time then it is play on. And yes this will result in the occasional shocker getting through- but even this week there were a few ‘shockers’ referred and they were STILL awarded. Go figure.
So what do you think? Am I a dumb whinger, or just a whining idiot?
