3. Force Problems
I don’t quite know what this says about me, or the two teams in question, but I really thought twice about watching the Force v. Brumbies game. Neither side is known for playing particularly inspiring rugby, and although the game had its moments it was largely forgettable. The Force played some shocking rugby in the first half, and while they restored some pride in the second period the pressure is now right on Michael Foley to deliver.
I remember the time when the Force were a young team who played an exciting brand of rugby. They had Giteau, Mitchell, Ioane, O’Connor, Sharpe, Pocock. They almost made the finals when it was still only a four team series. But their inability to attract big names in the post-Firepower era has ultimately been their undoing. What they wouldn’t give for a Kurtley Beale, a Quade Cooper or a Christian Lealiifano. I reckon a gun 10 could turn that team around, but in their current state they have buckley’s chance of attracting one.
It’s a shame, because there was a time where the Force was everyone’s second team. Now they are sinking into the mire playing turgid rugby.
