7. Toowoomba Grammar School – 94.072
Toowoomba Grammar’s season can be defined in a single phrase: Inconsistency.
It took a round 1 thrasing at the hands of BBC, followed by a thrashing at the hands of Churchie before Toowoomba wised up to the standard of rugby needed to have success at the First XV level. Round 3 saw the TGS boys lay out a thrashing of BGS 28-10. The significance of this win was quickly washed away by being thrashed by the biggest margin yet by Gregory Terrace.
The big losing margins for Toowoomba were offset by the strength of the teams they played, with the second highest SOS rating in the premiership of 5.556 lifting the team’s ranking higher than it has probably earned. Toowoomba has the biggest aggregate losing margin in the GPS, on average going down by 12.4 points a game. This stat is no doubt confounded by missing injured Australia rep 13. Liam Jurd with a signficant shoulder injury for the majority of the season.
If Toowoomba can end their season well against the spoon contenders they face in the next few games, as they’ve shown they can by beating BGS, the Toowoomba lads can reverse this trend of big winning and bigger losing, and could very well expect a mid-table finish by the time the dust settles on the competition.
Toowoomba’s NBA equivalent is the Cleveland Cavaliers, with a 93.907 Power Ranking.
Cleveland has struggled in the wake of LeBron Jame’s departure, and Jonah Placid’s graduation seems to have affected Toowoomba in a very similar manner.
