MG Motor has been announced as the official vehicle partner for the Blues, a partnership that aligns two champions in their respective fields. The decision came after the Blues’ triumphant victory over the Chiefs in the Super Rugby Pacific final, which convinced MG Motor Australia and New Zealand’s President and CEO, Peter Ciao, of the synergy between the two.
Peter Ciao expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “”The Blues are a champion team, and MG is becoming a champion brand. This partnership is a natural fit.”” He emphasized MG’s commitment to community-focused sporting sponsorships in New Zealand and anticipated similar success with the Blues, a team known for its strength and achievements.
The partnership was officially announced at the Blues’ headquarters by MG New Zealand’s Chief Operating Officer, Harrie Yan, alongside Blues CEO Andrew Hore and Chair Don Mackinnon. Hore shared his excitement, noting that both the Blues and MG are rising brands, with MG offering thrilling vehicles like the MG4 XPOWER and Cyberster. He humorously added that if the players could match the speed of these models, the team would have another successful season.
MG has recently celebrated milestones in New Zealand, such as winning the Motoring Writers Guild Car of the Year with the all-electric MG4 and introducing a groundbreaking 10-year/250,000km warranty on new models. Harrie Yan highlighted the shared values of resilience, dependability, and tenacity between MG and the Blues, expressing confidence in a lasting partnership.
The Blues are set to kick off their Super Rugby Pacific season on February 15 at Eden Park, facing the Chiefs in a rematch of last year’s final. MG looks forward to supporting the Blues as they defend their title into 2025 and beyond.
