Quick update on the G&GR Fantasy League for everyone. Moses is still holding on strong to the league lead and is representing us all well by placing 10th globally so far. One notable contestant is Phil Kearns coming in 3rd in our league. Why did I let him in again….?? Quick shoutout to Sagacious Mortals, who topped the weekly league score and was 7th overall for the round. Damn close to the $1k. We slipped a tad to 2nd in the overall league standings, but I’m confident we’ll be back on top in no time. Good luck to everyone.
This is a tough week with the Reds, Tahs, and Bulls on the bye. I’m sure several of them in your teams. The good thing is it’s a 4 transfer week, so you may be able to field a full team with a little luck and some planning ahead. I’m actually electing to use my “Wildcard” this week for unlimited transfers. I wasn’t screwed with the byes, more just wanted a fresh start. Too much dead weight in my squad for my liking and it was taking a while to clean it out week to week.
Some Fantasy Observations
- Adam Thompson has been a star thus far. He’s a “do it all” type of loosie so he gets plenty of carries, tackles, and even lineouts. I think he relishes being a go to guy for the Highlanders and easily finds ways to involve himself every game.
- Ben Alexander finally kicked on. I’ve been waiting for him to have a breakout game this season running the ball. He’d been scoring well in the lead up games but not playing his normal running game so I kept him in spite of his price. Shame we can’t say the same about his scrumming….
- Bismarck du Plessis has been rampaging and I think it’s part of his efforts to assert himself as the No. 1 Springbok hooker after his injury layoff. He’s helping to carry a well-performing Sharks squad.
- Sonny Bill Williams had a very impressive debut (fantasy-wise) in my eyes. He’s a magician with the ball and his stepping/offloading will earn him a ton of points. Fruean was the beneficiary this week, but I think SBW will eventually out-earn him.
- The Rebels continue to be a fantasy stay away on your team. No one appears to be a good option except Kevin O’Neill and I’m not sure why he didn’t play this week. Ask Moses how that worked out for him… The Rebels are a option for opposition fantasy choices though, as the Chiefs proved again.
- The Hurricanes finally come back after a long 2 week layoff. Will be interesting to see how they perform. I like the look of Victor Vito. Nonu is still suspended.
