With competition leaders Harlequins enjoying the bye, the fifth round of Victoria’s elite competition will see Melbourne Unicorns pushing for the top spot.
The Unicorns, sitting second on the ladder, are still unbeaten in the competition and will face a tough opponent in Moorabbin. Boosted by Melbourne Rebels’ Tim Metcher, he will line-up against teammate Mick Snowden. He shifts to fly-half as he has done in the second half of last Unicorns’ game. A big win for Melbourne will put them on top of the ladder.
A game that should entertain the spectators will be played at Henry Turner Reserve between Footscray and Box Hill. The two team value attack over defence, giving a lot of space and scoring opportunities for the backs. Footscray and Box Hill had mixed results in the last few weeks: the Bulldogs started on a high note trumping Uni but then lost two games in a row, the Broncos conversely were defeated on their first outing by Melbourne but came back winning their last two games. A win for the Broncos will cement their third spot and send the Bulldogs in the bottom half of the ladder.
Melbourne Uni will host Southern Districts in a battle of the cellar dwellers. The Students had a bye last week so we expect them to come into this game firing determined win against the Pirates.
In the final match, Endeavour Hills will look to extend their great run of victories with host Power House at Frog Hollow Reserve.
All games will kick off at 3:10 on Saturday
