Dewar Shield Round 4 is expected to be big. Three out of the four matches have the potential to shape the competition ladder for season 2016.
After an unexpected loss at home against Endeavour Hills, Footscray will play the Unicorns at Romains reserve. In a top four battle, Footscray (4) welcome back Rebel players Cullum Retalick and Colby Faainga’a. The Unicorns (2) will have Mick Snowden and the competition’s top scorer Paul McConnochie in the midfield.
In a late schedule change, Box Hill will host Power House at RHL Sparks Reserve. Depending on the result, the Broncos can leapfrog Melbourne on the competition ladder. The Broncos had a convincing win against Southern Districts, dominating in all parts of the game. Power House, in our feature match from last round, went down to Moorabbin a close affair.
Endeavour Hills or Moorabbin can push for a top-four spot with a win. The match will see two Rebels lock horns; Siliva Siliva will line up at Hooker for Endeavour Hills, whilst Tim Metcher will start at Prop for Moorabbin.
The match between ladder leader Harlequins and the Southern Districts won’t shape the ladder. Harlequins will look to fortify its position as the Dewar Shield front-runners. The Pirates will look to score their first win of the season.
Melbourne University has the bye.
