Sydney Stars winger James Dargaville is the latest NRC star to have signed with a Super Rugby Franchise after signing with the Brumbies for the 2015 season.
The signing follows a number of other NRC players to be signed to Super Rugby teams after the first year of the NRC competition.
Dargaville was excited about the move to Canberra.
“I’m hoping this move to Canberra and the Brumbies will also provide some positive outcomes for me and my rugby over the next couple of years” he said.
“To be coached by someone like Stephen Larkham is incredibly exciting, not to mention getting to play and train alongside Wallabies like Joe Tomane and Henry Speight. I think I’ve got something different I can add to this squad and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in come pre-season in a couple of weeks’ time.”
According to the Queensland Reds they have signed nine Queensland NRC players – six from Brisbane City and three from Queensland Country.
Earlier this week the Queensland Reds signed 17 year old Queensland Country centre Campbell Magnay. Magnay was the youngest player in this year’s NRC tournament and is now at the Reds for the next 3 years.
Reds coach Richard Graham was delighted with the signing.
“At only 17, this is a strong recognition of his talent. We were aware of the skills he has to offer and we made the right decision to bring him through the NRC with Queensland Country, despite his age” he said.
“The three-year contract recognises the need for him to further develop his skills in the Reds program and with the quality of players around him he’ll develop really well in that time. He is an outstanding young talent and we believe he has a lot to offer the Reds.”
