Newb is a rugby convert from the US. Naive and uninitiated in his youth, he was educated on the glory of the sport during a study abroad stay in Sydney. But don't hate him for being a Yank. Love him because he's not a Kiwi.
The scores are in, the results are tallied… and New Zealand beat us in fantasy too. Not only did they walk away with Bill, but one of their ardent supporters also topped the G&GR RWC Fantasy League. Congratulations to GURU 0909 and his team Black Attack who climbed the standings higher each week. GURU was not only our champ, he finished 12th overall in the FoxSports comp. Quite the accomplishment, with thousands of entries and 144 in our league alone. It wasn’t easy to find the gems of each round, especially with some of the high performers coming from minnow…

Another great season of SupeRugby has come and, somewhat sadly, gone. The Reds’ strong finish to be crowned champs was a great result for their fans, and for fans of Australian rugby in general. But I’m feeling a tad disappointed now it’s all over. What the hell am I going to do with the five hours a week I have to spare, now that I’m not manically obsessing over my fantasy team transactions?!!? I looked forward to the weekly team announcements like I did as a kid opening the first present on Christmas Day (thanks a ton for taking your…
The finals are drawing near, which means that fantasy crunch time is fast approaching. Each week is becoming more and more valuable. Time is dwindling for those of us looking to move up the table, and for those at the top, it’s getting harder and harder to hold on. The league leader is still Meeks Gold, who is doing a hell of a job holding down 8th overall. We’ve also got seven members in the Top 100 overall, and the #1 league average in the comp by a fair margin. This is damn impressive when you consider that there are over 40,000…
The weeks are creeping closer to mid-season now that we’re past Round 8. Seems like a good time for a G&GR Fantasy update. We’re still going strong overall, but have juuuuust slipped into second place (out of 2,604) in the league rankings. I’m confident we’ll make up the one-point difference and reclaim the throne. Our current overall leader is The Force Is Strong, and while that’s only a nice theory in real life rugby, it’s proving to be very true when it comes to fantasy. Well done in placing 17th globally as well. Meeks Gold is coming in strong as…
Quick update on the G&GR Fantasy League for everyone. Moses is still holding on strong to the league lead and is representing us all well by placing 10th globally so far. One notable contestant is Phil Kearns coming in 3rd in our league. Why did I let him in again….?? Quick shoutout to Sagacious Mortals, who topped the weekly league score and was 7th overall for the round. Damn close to the $1k. We slipped a tad to 2nd in the overall league standings, but I’m confident we’ll be back on top in no time. Good luck to everyone. This is…
Well, well, well… Quite a start to the fantasy season we have on our hands here! I personally copped a hiding (thanks Ma’a) but nonetheless there was some success around the league. Our very own Moses shot out of a cannon to finish 2nd overall with a blazing 457 points. Might have thought he’d fallen just short of the weekly $1,000 prize? Not so fast. On a tremendous stroke of luck, the winner was deemed ineligible to collect (non-Aussie) and Moses ran off into the night with the loot. Congrats mate, don’t spend it all in one place. Our fine…
Let’s be honest here. If you’re on this site, it’s probably because you’re a rugby tragic. So if you’re already addicted, why not add another vice to the equation? Join our Super Rugby fantasy competition! There’s still time to sign up, but with only 4 days before the 1st round roster deadline there isn’t much time. Go to this post for the details on how to join our Fox Sports league. We’ve already had well over 100 people join so it should be a kick ass competition. In fact, Green and Gold Rugby will be offering a prize to the overall…
It was a hard fought season with heaps of strong contenders, but there could only be one winner of the G&GR Fantasy League. That winner, and proud owner of a Double Gold Pass from the ARU, was none other than SCRUMBLUE’s SCUMBAGS! Huge, well-deserved congrats to him for taking the title home! He grabbed the lead in round 14 and never let go, but had been in the top ten from week 5 on. Now that’s consistency! We also kept our #1 spot for league average too! So in an “A for effort” kind of way, we’re all champs! But…
Here we are everyone, just the final to go! It’s still a close one at the top of the standings. Scrumblue has held on from last week to keep his lead, and is sitting 26th globally. That’s a great showing. Just 44 points behind is SuperMango20, with Steven Hawkin, da boytjie, and Bobas’ Up Inside You rounding out the top 5. Great work by all to get there. My nemesis Newb Hunter (who are you?!?!?) is kicking my ass and has clawed into the top 10. Sadly, ManBearPigs appears to have thrown in the towel after being overtaken. G&GR’s own…
Little bit of movement at the top of the table this week, making things interesting heading to the semis. An off round by ManBearPigs saw him relinquish the lead, with scrumblue taking over top spot. Steven Hawking and SuperMango20 follow just behind. All four managers are in the top 70 globally which is pretty damn impressive. They’re the ones keeping our league average at number 1 again. Bobas notched a great score after having the foresight to make Quade his captain and is now within fingertips of the top 5. And Newb Hunter has overtaken a humbled Newb, adding insult…
Ok folks, only one round left before the playoffs and things are getting tight at the top. Delos Pink Panthers was the team of the round with 537 points which brought him up to 6th. scrumblue and da Boytjie’s also had great rounds and are closing fast. ManBearPigs must be watching the rear-view mirror very intently, while holding on to 17th overall. Pretty good week for the Aussie teams in fantasy land. Beale and Toomua were the stars among the backs, and rightfully so.
Well well well… The season is beginning to wind down with only 2 rounds left before the playoffs start. Appears to be a 4 horse race for the title at the moment. ManBearPigs still at the top with Steven Hawkin, SuperMango20, and scrumblue close behind. SuperMango20 is especially hot, taking the honors for highest round score as well with 436 points. It’s a good time to catch a hot streak! Still 4 rounds left in total so the margins can be made up. We keep our top league average ranking intact for another week as well. Helps with 4 members…
Pretty good week in the G&GR league overall. We maintained our league average lead for yet another week. Well done on that fellas! ManBearPigs keeps the top spot and rose to 14th overall globally. Good showings by Steve Hawkin, scrumblue, and SuperMango20 give us an impressive 4 members in the top 75 global. Top team for the round was Pococks Willies, which made me want to wash my hands after even just typing it out… His 446 points was good for a climb of 12 spots up to 15th in the league. Personally, I suffered more disappointment in what started…
No earth-shattering changes to the league this past week. A couple newcomers to the top 10 and bit of shuffling, but overall looks about the same. ManBearPigs still sits on the G&GR throne and 23rd overall, with scrumblue coming on strong. TazXV had a sweet round (3rd best in G&GR) and is on the move up to 8th in the standings. The Drop Kicks topped everyone with a hefty 489 points. Now that all the teams have run through the bye weeks, I thought we’d revisit the Wallabies Fantasy Squad. The list has been updated and it’s pretty damn close…
After a down week last time out, nearly everyone responded with a high-scoring round (except umm, yours truly… cough). Faith in the Reds was a big part of it and the key players didn’t disappoint. ManBearPigs retains the league lead and climbed into the top ten to sit 7th overall in FoxSports land. And 3 players in the top 30 is no mean feat. The high scorer for the round was none other than that rascal Newb Hunter with his team of “Rednecks”. His 597 points was good for 5th highest of the week in the whole she-bang. A quick…
Alright fellas, what the hell was that? Pretty much a collective stinker thrown up by our table leaders, including myself. I had a shocker as the weekend progressed, but didn’t slip too much by some stroke of luck. A favorite, ManBearPigs is our new league leader, ousting the stalwart Steven Hawkin from the throne and climbing to 18th globally. Keep up the good work! On a pretty high-scoring week we only had one 400+ point team in the new top 10, with ANGRY PIRATES swashbuckling his way up the table to the tune of 458 points. That man Bobas continued…
Sorry for the delay folks… A largely stable week in the G&GR Fantasy Comp. The top 3 of the league remain the same (Steven Hawkin keeps the crown another week), however a slightly off round resulted in him slipping to 2nd overall in the global competition. Some bloody South African (not one of our beloved Saffas) leads the way now! I don’t know about you, but I’ll be very disappointed if one of our G&GR boys/girls doesn’t bring the title home. On the brightside, we still have a fairly commanding lead in the league average table. Champ of the round was “Pdivvy…
So…. what’s different this week? Well, not very much. Our league average is still leading the way, with a decent margin to the next competition. A bit of shuffling of the top 10, but Steve Hawkins still holds the lead on next closest by over 130 points, which is beginning to look a bit unreachable. And the man still has the overall FoxSports lead. Like I said, not much has changed. This was a bit of a down week for scores. No crazy 500 point teams for our league, not even 400. Ishmael topped us all with 380 points for…
This could pretty easily be an all Tahs post. I’ll try to add some variety if possible though. The moral of the story is — hope your players are facing the Lions. They leak like a fishnet. The previously bumbling Sydney boys took advantage, and it showed in fantasy land. The top spot in the standings is looking familiar with Steven Hawkin holding it down for another week, and retaining the FoxSports overall lead. Well done that man. Our beloved Bobas came through with a ridiculous 565 points for highest of the round. Welcome to the top 50! Making…
