Atasi Lafai, a key player for the NSW Waratahs Women and the Australian Wallaroos, faces a tough break as she’s sidelined for the rest of the 2025 season. She suffered a severe injury involving her ACL, MCL, and lateral meniscus during a trial match against NSW Pasifica, a major setback for both her team and supporters.
Lafai is no stranger to adversity, having battled through multiple serious injuries in her career. Her past includes two ACL injuries, a broken collarbone, ankle, foot, finger, and a neck issue that once threatened her career.
Despite these hurdles, Lafai’s resilience shines through. In April 2024, she bounced back from a freak eye injury to earn the title of player of the Super Rugby Women’s Grand Final and was later named the Rugby Union Players’ Association Player of the Year.
Reflecting on her journey, Lafai once admitted, “I thought I’d never play again.” Her return to the field after a neck and ankle scare in 2023 highlighted her determination and passion for rugby.
The Waratahs and the wider rugby community are rallying around Lafai, confident in her ability to overcome this latest challenge. Fans and teammates are hopeful for her full recovery and eagerly await her return to the game.
