3. Mitchell’s Timing
Most of us have seen the footage, if you haven’t, click play in the box below.
Days after being made eligible for World Cup selection, Drew Mitchell has shown his quality on the big occasion and sliced through half a dozen defenders to score the match winner for Toulon. Mitchell’s timing couldn’t have been better and he, as well as team mate Matt Giteau, could be very easily drafted into the Wallaby squad.
Standing in his way is Speight and James O’Connor, who, injury permitting, look to be given first crack for the Wallaby wing spots, with: Cummins, Horne, Ashley-Cooper and Tomane also tested and viable options.
However, after viewing the Toulon footage I got chills of the vintage (but younger), arguable World XV Mitchell that at the end of games consistently showed his class with tries to set up Wallaby wins in games in: Bloemfontein, Honkers, and an away Hat trick against France (the best video I could find is embedded below). The Wallabies will have all sorts of fitness statistics from those past years and if he can replicate them, he should earn a spot in a match day 23 this year.
