Streaker
In the 62nd minute of the second test between New Zealand and England a streaker got onto the field and a security guard made a mild suggestion that he come off the field and put some clothes on.
OK he tackled him; but the streaker couldn’t complain that he was tackled without a ball because he had two of them in plain sight.
Now some sooks are complaining that the security guard was too rough on the poor possum.
It was a fair tackle, with arms, and although the security guard blindsided him you have to expect to get tackled on a rugby field—it’s what they do there. OK, it was a bonecrusher and it snapped the guys head back, but that’s not even a penalty in my book.
Only a penalty for holding on surely
Now, the headlock on the guy when he went to ground is probably against some law, but in mitigation the tackler was waiting for support to arrive at the breakdown. Maybe a penalty then but no card.
You’ve got to make allowances for inexperience too. The tackler, 19-year-old Brad Hemopo, who plays rugby in Christchurch and trialled for the NZ Under 20s team, was earning some extra money as a security guard. There is a case, if it goes to a hearing, for saying that he got his two activities mixed up.
George Ayoub would get him off—he would say there was “no reason” to indict him in the first place.
After being in the Canterbury Wider Traning Group during the week and being told how to handle loiterers what do you expect a fellow to do when he sees a guy who needs to be cleaned out? Take him by the hand and escort him off the park?
Bullshit—you take the bastard out.
Not guilty.
