Here is another edition of Green and Gold’s Tuesday Top Five
We start our Top Five with the win of the Aussie Women Seven’s team in London; then move to the boys for an outlook on the Rugby World Cup 2015; touch base on the fight for the Australian Super Rugby Conference; pay tribute to Red’s comprehensive win and finally we will acknowledge the quality of rugby played across the ditch.
1. Top Girls
The Wallaroos Sevens win in London was one of the best Aussie performances of the year, in any rugby event: they won every match in the tournament, smashed New Zealand in the semi-final, and came from nowhere in the final to beat Canada.
Sharni Williams – woman of steel
The Aussie girls showed determination, courage and class and deserve more visibility in the media. They became serious contenders for gold at Rio 2016 whereas the men (who, to their credit, improved in London to make the final) are too inconsistent, and will be fortunate to get a podium position.
The top spot of the Tuesday Top Five has to belong to Sharni Williams and her team mates.
And just in case some people still have doubts about women’s rugby, watch the 2013 video below and appreciate why a real rugger must love Sharni:
Media people – we wish to see and hear more about the women’s team in the near future, starting with next tournament in Holland, good luck girls!
