3. Australian teams are learning to maul
Not sure how I feel about this one. Largely I think the maul is legalised obstruction and should be removed from the game. Unfortunately, the game is in the hands of northern hemisphere power brokers at the moment and, for reasons best known to themselves, they love it. In that light, it’s probably for the best that the boys learn to love it.

The Brumbies picked up three tries against the Highlanders this way, the Waratahs had one against the Rebels, and the Force got one in as well.
Almost every single one of them was set up illegally, with players joining in in front of the ball carrier, or the ball carrier himself not binding to the maul properly and sliding back behind players who had joined legally.
All teams are doing it, the referees aren’t pinging it, so why wouldn’t we?
