Where are Australia’s answers to Potgieter? Do we even produce rugby players like him?
Many would point at Melbourne Rebels teenager Seam McMahon as a close match to him. The 19 year old Queenslander (I found one!) is 186cm tall and about 100kgs that’s 8cm shorter and a full 15kgs lighter than the South African.
We just don’t seem to grow big and I mean Big, fast loose forwards in Australia. And the ones we do tend to be more like Scott Fardy, who’s a great player, but in my mind more of a lock/flanker than a flanker/lock. Now that’s okay but wouldn’t it be nice to have an out and out, slightly crazy blindside flanker just once?
