Cracker of a week to say the least. Big game scores usually means big fantasy scores and this week didn’t disappoint. I felt pretty good with almost 400 points this week (20 more than last week) and I lost ground! If you didn’t clear 450 points you pretty much did the same by the looks of it. This week blew any fantasy round of last year out of the water in terms of magnitude.
One example of this is the top overall score for the round – 549 points! I can’t remember anything close to that last year. Our own top scorer for the round was Slat’s Fairies with 509 big ones, good for a jump of 106 fukin’ spots up to 19th. ManBearPigs drops one spot down, while Steven Hawkin Rugby motor-wheelchairs into the lead. The important thing is that we’ve maintained our league average lead for another week, showing those inferior dopes below us how it’s done. Now on to the performers…
Blinders:
- Morne Steyn, Bulls: Didn’t lay a foot wrong in the game against the Brumbies, scoring a remarkable 77 points. Dude is a machine this year. Already with 128 points through two games, while last year he ended up with 331 total. Get him in, stick with him.
- Wadile Mjekevu, Lions: Who? Lucky man of the week, scoring 74 points after recording 3 tries in a losing effort against the Chiefs. Not sold on him or the Lions though. Just as likely to be a bust.
- Richard Kahui, Chiefs: Another beneficiary of the score-fest in Jo’burg. Scored 3 tries himself in the defensive master-class of the weekend.
- Quade Cooper, Reds: Improved on last week’s tally with a spritely 62 points for the VICTORIOUS Reds. What a season he’s putting together, and it’s translating to fantasy. So far, his accurate goal kicking is a real boost to his natural running ability. Definitely worth a go.
- Rocky Elsom, Brumbies: A great return from injury for the Rock. His 60 points should be a sign of things to come in my mind. His all-around game is tailored to the new scoring system. Running ability, great tackler, and gets some lineout takes as well. And as he’s not a major pilferer, he’s less likely to get pinged for penalties.
Flops:
- Tony Woodcock, Blues: Real stinker of a game (-7 points) for the Myth. I may have been wrong about him having a comeback year. Doesn’t look up to it yet.
- Aled de Malmanche, Chiefs: Decided to one-up Tony by posting a ridiculous -11. How is that even possible? Light a match.
- Issac Ross, Crusaders: So far has fantasy scores of 0 and 5. I thought he’d bounce back to send a message to the Cartel after his All Blacks dog-housing. Not so far. And now injured again…
- Isia Toeava, Blues: Only put 3 points together in about 25 minutes of game time before going off injured and is not coming back this week.
Bargain Bin:
- Hurricane’s Young Guns: Aaron Cruden, Bryn Evans, and Michael Paterson all had super games last week, albeit against the Force so take it with an ocean’s worth of salt. But the future looks pretty bright for all of them and they come cheap. Keep an eye on who is starting/benching though.
- Daniel Halangahu, Tahs: He gets the start at flyhalf this week, but who knows how that will go. Worth a shot if you’re desperate – or an irrational Tahs supporter.
