The Western Force is excited to announce that their captain, Jeremy Williams, has extended his contract for another two years with both the Super Rugby Pacific team and Rugby Australia. Standing at 198cm, Williams had an impressive 2024 season, making his international debut for the Wallabies against Wales and playing in 10 out of 13 Tests, starting in seven of them. Before joining the Force in 2023, Williams played for the NSW Waratahs and quickly became one of the top performers in Super Rugby Pacific, particularly excelling in lineouts. His outstanding performance earned him the Club’s Force Man award.
Williams, who began his rugby journey with the Wahroonga Tigers, was appointed as the Force captain for the 2024 season. His leadership on and off the field led to his first Wallabies call-up and debut against Wales in July. Known for his hard work and no-nonsense approach, Williams showcased his athleticism with a memorable sideline try against England in London last November.
On re-signing, Williams expressed his commitment to the Force, stating, “”I’m thrilled to continue my journey with the Western Force and Australian Rugby. My time in Perth has been incredible, with a fantastic team and coaching staff. I believe we’re building something special here, and I want to be part of it.””
Williams emphasized the strong family culture within the Force, which he believes contributes to their on-field success. “”The connections we’ve built are like family, and that camaraderie is crucial for our performance,”” he said.
Force head coach Simon Cron praised Williams for his leadership and impact on the team. “”Jeremy is an exceptional leader and a vital part of our environment. We’re delighted he’s chosen to stay with us and continue his journey,”” Cron remarked.
As Wallaby number 973, Williams’ commitment comes at a pivotal time for Australian Rugby, with major events like the British & Irish Lions Series and the 2027 Rugby World Cup on the horizon. Rugby Australia’s Director of High-Performance, Peter Horne, highlighted Williams as a promising young player and a strong ambassador for the sport, looking forward to his continued growth in the Australian system.
