Rugby is definitely a big part of my life and I love to watch it and report on it. My teams are the Queensland Reds and Brothers.
We look ahead to the first weekend of Queensland Premier Rugby with a preview of each of the clubs that are involved
Now that Silly Sunday and Mad Monday are over for another year, it’s time to take some painkillers, grab a hash brown and reflect on the year that was. Uni took out the Hospitial Cup, defeating last year’s Premiers Sunnybank in a 46-20 whitewash. Uni got an early lead and although Sunnybank came back with several tries, the Heavies were just too good for them this time around. Reds player Ben Tapuai and his brother Rex were strong performers in the Sunnybank side while Uni’s Curtis Browning was a stand out performer. A massive congratulations to Uni for earning a…
Queensland Premier Rugby heavyweights Sunnybank are one step closer to
Yes, it’s that time of year again and we’re done with the first round of finals for Queensland Premier Rugby. The two Premier Rugby semi-finals were played today in spectacular fashion. Sunnybank managed a very narrow win over GPS, winning 30-27 in the elimination match. This means that the men in green and black will advance to the preliminary final next week against Brothers. Grand Final 2011 rematch! University prevailed convincingly over Brothers, winning 59-12. They’re straight into the Grand Final while Brothers nervously await their fate next Sunday. Bring on the next two weeks! Here’s the link to all club rugby…
If you’re all feeling a sense of déjà vu leading into next week’s finals, I don’t blame you. The top four for the 2012 Queensland Premier Rugby competition is the same as last year and events have played out very much like last year. For the second year running and in a similar fashion, Easts’ finals hopes were dashed as a result of their 36-22 loss to Uni. GPS have shown that they’re a force to be reckoned with leading into next week’s semi against Sunnybank with a 52-3 win against Wests. In turn, Sunnybank had a very convincing 53-10…
It’s hard to believe that in a month, the last round of Premier Rugby for the year will be done and dusted!! As we move closer to the finals, the battle for the top four gets more and more interesting each week. Easts bounced back well after last week’s disappointment, winning 49-27 against Wests. Norths had a whopping 62-3 victory over the Sunshine Coast, Uni defeated Sunnybank 30-17, Souths got up over the Gold Coast winning 50-27 and Brothers had a nail-biting win over GPS -36-28. The season has gone by really quickly and it’s time to start considering who…
So once again, Queensland Premier Rugby has not disappointed! Sunnybank, Norths, Wests and Easts all recorded wins. And a very interesting result arose from this round: Souths and Uni drew. This further proves that Souths have become a force to be reckoned with and have strengthened throughout the season. Brothers gave away a penalty in the dying minutes in their game against Norths and went down 19-17. This was the upset of the round. Reigning Premiers Sunnybank have also strengthened, achieving a win against Jeeps. Our two coastal teams were defeated but the Gold Coast showed a gutsy effort and…
The much-anticipated Welsby Cup match between first and second-placed Brothers
Round 9 of the Queensland Premier Rugby competition was most definitely one to remember. The match of the round, Easts versus Uni, didn’t disappoint. Easts came from behind in the second half to achieve a solid 39-29 win over the Heavies. Wests are proving themselves to be a force to be reckoned with, pleasing their home crowd with a great second half comeback to defeat GPS 27-20. Brothers are the clear leaders of the table, winning over the Sunshine Coast 38-5 and earning themselves a bonus point. The Mapgies had a convincing win over Norths, defeating the home side 41-17.…
