Here it is – the G&GR writers’ Super Rugby team of the week for round 16.
With two good wins and an excruciating Waratahs loss, who makes this round’s team of the week?
[one_third last=”no”]
1. Scott Sio
Once again showed himself to be a damaging runner, also earning numerous penalties for his side at scrum time.[/one_third] [one_third last=”no”]
2. Steven Moore
Always reliable performer. An important cog in the Brumbies’ overall set-piece strength. Added some strong running close to the ruck and a tremendous 11 tackles[/one_third] [one_third last=”yes”]
3. James Slipper
The Red’s scrums were generally neutral but Slipper once again demonstrated through his running game, breakdown involvement and cover defence that he is the hardest working tighthead in Australian rugby.[/one_third]
[one_third last=”no”]
4. Rob Simmons
Showed a great physical edge in defence and at the breakdown, essential in slowing down the Rebel’s ball. Also added important involvement in the line-out and carrying the pill.[/one_third] [one_third last=”no”]
5. Luke Jones
Made up for the injury to in-form Pyle by demonstrating a powerful running game, very important in getting his team consistently over the advantage line. [/one_third] [one_third last=”yes”]
6. Peter Kimlin
Added a try to his usual hard-nosed, workmanlike approach. Very important to winning the breakdown battle.[/one_third]
[one_third last=”no”]
7. Michael Hooper
MOTW. Added a few explosive runs, including a tremendous break to facilitate the Betham try, to his usual heavy opposition-infuriating involvement at the breakdown. [/one_third][one_third last=”no”]
8. Ben Mowen
Despite a great performance by Dennis, Mowen gets the nod this week for his dominance at line-out time, adding to a powerful running game. [/one_third][one_third last=”yes”]
9. Nic White
Another great performance, White is making a very strong case for Wallabies inclusion. A masterful kicking display, his game also featured some important darts and another opportunistic try.[/one_third]
[one_third last=”no”]
10. Matt Toomua
In an unspectacular week for Aussie 10s, Toomua demonstrated a refreshingly explosive running game, hitting the line flat and at speed off quick ball to create plenty of chances. Directed the team well [/one_third] [one_third last=”no”]
11. Luke Morahan
Scored a great intercept try and was overall very involved in attack. Must be the strongest winger in the comp, consistently driving tacklers over the advantage line and staying on his feet for offloads. [/one_third][one_third last=”yes”]
12. Rob Horne
Solid performance from Horne, who capitalised on a firing Waratahs forward pack to highlight his strong midfield attack. Unfortunately, no Australian centres have Dan Carter inside them, the deciding factor in an unlucky loss [/one_third]
[one_third last=”no”]
13. Adam Ashley-Cooper
Despite using his patented left-foot step, right hand fend combination virtually every run, AAC was again very effective, running strong and consistently getting over the ad-line.[/one_third][one_third last=”no”]
14. Cam Crawford
good positional play and linkup with other backs. Showed great initiative to slice into the backline for first try and numerous runs thereafter.[/one_third][one_third last=”yes”]
15. Jason Woodward
Not quite the influential running game as last week but once again demonstrated his accurate booming kicking game which was a deciding factor in the Rebels strong field position battle. [/one_third]
