Eddie Jones has become the Where’s Wally of rugby over the last few years; some might offer the Scarlet Pimpernel, for others he may well be the Quasimodo, all crazy, sitting in a bell tower making heaps of noise getting in trouble with authorities.
Whatever Eddie is, one thing he isn’t is unemployed for very long. Sure he has his bread and butter job with Suntory in Japan, but our mate Eddie likes his fingers in many pies, so in which freshly baked offering will Eddie place his digits in next?
Eddies latest house of cards, Saracens, has come crashing down around his ears due to interference of his one time employer, the South African Rugby Football Union. Despite having the overall support of the players, he has chosen to walk instead of live in the shadow of the axe from management – more power to him I say!
The last time Eddie was boned from a job when the players thought he was doing a good job, was the Wallabies gig. What did Eddie do, went off and teamed up with Jake White and won the World Cup, talk about revenge being a meal best eaten cold!
What will Eddie do now?
If I were a betting man, which I am, I would have a substantial wager on Eddie once again teaming up with his mate Jake White. The club – Leicester. With White being courted heavily to take over the reins at the English glamour club, and both of them having substantial axes to grind with the South African establishment, watch for Eddie and White to be the men to plot the downfall of a particular English club that has recently become the play thing of the SARFU.

I’m not at all up to date with NH… can someone enlighten me
What’s the SARU involvement with Saracens?
and who’s SARFU?
1. SARFU is the former name of the South African Rugby Union.
2. South African Investments Ltd (SAIL) own the Blue Bulls & Western Province franchises in the Currie Cup. They now have a 50% share of Premier Team Holdings who run Sarries. They have signed Bredan Venter as their coach and have given 18 players notice of termination. Word is that they’re going to sign a heap of saffas and turn the club into a South African satellite.
Cheers for the info.
I suppose Watford isn’t far out though I’d be surprised if they don’t look to play some games at Wimbledon, where all the Saffas are.
One can have doubts about Eddie but I would bet a fair bit on him vs the f***ed up t**ts that pass for sports administration in RSA these days.
I actually have enormous respect for most South Africans and they make great friends, despite my constant bagging and their sports administrations break my heart with their stupidity, as much in cricket as rugby. They all seem to be as screwed as Mbeki and he is one friggin ripe fruitcake. Changing the Springboks, for example, for whatever the reason, is vandalism to my mind.
So here’s to Eddie! been a while since I thought I would say that :)
i disagree with the statement last time he was fired when the players thought he was doing a good job was at the Wobblies…
the players were frustrated and did not like playing under such a rigid structure. he treated players rudley many times and his model of coaching was definitely not based on too much player feeback, another cause for distress. Furhtermore players on the fringe who are now incumbents, had on occasion asked themselves, well fuck, do i relaly want to play here for a gold jersey or should i just bail and get cash….all because of Eddie. Squeeky moore comes to mind, who was contemplating a move to Ireland due to Eddies place as HC of the Wobblies.
Eddie teamed up with jake White….hmm, what did he do….my advice to Jake could have been the same as Eddie’s
“Jake…dont do anything, you are playing really well, now give me my cheque”
no even im not stupid enough to think that but was eddies involvement really that instrumental in the victory…the safas were 2nd faves to win anyway…and had played 3 great years leading up to it where they developed the players and attitude to win
please…Eddie Jones may have advised on some technical aspects of the game…but i dont think we can truly look at the Safa victory as a victory for Eddie…he was riding coat tails.
lets also not forget his time in Aus after his Wobblies stint. He dragged Queensland into further problems, players left, players threatened to leave, he left with a cheque for contract pay out, did he really give a fk, no.
Eddie jones can be praised for doing one thing right. getting Giteau in a Wallaby jersey from the Vikings.
Samo, where is he now.
Lloyd Johanssen where is he now
Grey
He hindered, almost drove and drove away so many players from the Wallabies, and Queensland later on, its no surprise he chops and changes jobs like a incontenance patient. He “found” so many players, that, hmm, only 2 of them are Wallabies now? AAC and Giteau…sorry…3, and Freir
eddie Jones…brilliant technician…but a dickhead.
He looks a bit like odd job, maybe that will be his next post.
Pedro’s last blog post..Socceroos Team List For Japan WCQ
If your mail is on song, does that mean Karmichael Hunt could potentially go to Leicester as well seeing Eddies talking to him about coming to Suntory?
