The Waratahs take on the Highlanders in the semi final of the 2015 Super Rugby tournament. Here are 10 reasons to go out to Allianz Stadium and support the Waratahs.
1. The Match
An obvious one to start off with – stats conclusively prove the match will be a cracker.
Both teams love to attack and play wide, expansive games. If you didn’t watch it, have a look at the Highlanders match against the Chiefs last weekend and that will definitely get you excited.
2. The Atmosphere
There is nothing better than seeing Allianz Stadium at full capacity. Last year’s Wallabies test against the French and last year’s semi final between the Waratahs and Brumbies were both great matches and the crowd certainly got their money’s worth. The match on Saturday night is sure to have an electric atmosphere.
3. To Say Goodbye
Hopefully the Brumbies can defeat the Hurricanes to make it an all Australian final but if that does not happen then it will be the last home game for a number of Waratahs players.
Adam Ashley-Cooper, Wycliff Palu, Sekope Kepu, Brenden McKibbin, Taqele Naiyaravoro, Jacques Potgieter and many more will most likely be playing their last home game for the Waratahs. It will also be Michael Cheika’s last home game as coach of the Waratahs. Saturday night will be a great opportunity to see these players in Waratahs colours for the last time.
4. The Match-Ups
There will be Wallabies and All Blacks scattered across the park but here are a few mouth-watering match-ups – Ben Smith v Israel Folau, Malakai Fekitoa v Adam Ashley-Cooper, Nasi Manu v Wycliff Palu, Nick Phipps v Aaron Smith and Lima Sopoaga v Bernard Foley.
5. Support
The 15 Waratahs players will need every bit of your support if they are to defeat the Highlanders. The support shown last year was one of the key factors which allowed the Waratahs to win the title and that has to be replicated if they are any chance to go back-to-back.
6. Paddo
With plenty of restaurants and bars, Paddington is the perfect place to have dinner and drinks before the match with family and friends. And then get plastered afterwards.*
7. History
The Waratahs may have gone down to the Highlanders earlier this year 26-19 but last year they smashed the Highlanders 44-16 at Allianz. The Waratahs scored six tries in a highly entertaining match in front of a vocal Sydney crowd.
8. Willpower
Who doesn’t love watching Will Skelton run over little guys? He is a huge reason to go and watch the Waratahs on his own.
9. It’s a Semi-Final FFS!
It’s not everyday that you get a home Super Rugby semi final so why not go out so you will be able to say ‘I was there’.
10. The Price
Adult tickets start from just $29.57 and a family pass starts from just $82.58.
