In a recent post I gave you details of the Wallaby players’ tackling performances in 2010.
Here’s a little more detail that shows how the team went against all the different teams they played in 2010.
Let’s start with the number of tackles attempted.
While the average number of tackles in all games was 159 there is a fair bit of variance from the low against Ireland to the high against England on the recent EOYT.
Next we’ll look at missed tackles.
Not surprisingly, the two worst performances in terms of missed tackles were also the Wallabies’ worst two games of the year — Bledisloe 1 in Melbourne and England on the EOYT.
Combining those two measures, we can look at the successful tackle percentage.
So the lowest successful tackle percentage was against New Zealand in Hong Kong! That’s a result I wouldn’t have predicted, given that’s the only game in which the Wallabies have beaten New Zealand in the last two years.
And finally, the dominant tackle percentage.
The average for dominant tackles for all games in 2010 was 22 per cent, and again there are big variances between games. Interesting that the Wallabies obviously muscle up a lot more against South Africa than they do against New Zealand.
